Haunted HousesThe Mummy Returns: The Curse Continues- Based on the hit movie! Venture through a maze of tomblike corridors and dark caverns in the Temple of the Scorpion King, where danger lurks around every corner.
This haunted house had some cool effects in it like collapseing walls that disoriented you, and had monsters coming from all around (above you too), but wasn't really anything special. Wasn't that scary either. It was located in the Earthquake line.
Superstitions- Explore a hidden warehouse filled with ancient relics and urban legends that will have you believing in the supernatural.
This could have been SO much better. I think that this was almost a waste of time (even though I went through it 3 times, it was the only one with no line). Basically, you went through the empty buildings across from the old Kong building, and a narration was telling you about different superstions (broken mirror, yeti, aliens, etc) and then they jumped out at you. Could have been a lot better, but it's possible that it was bad because the park toned down a lot of stuff after 9-11.
Scary Tales- Enter an abandoned carnival attraction and find yourself in a nightmarish fairy tale world where there's never a happy ending.
I'd say that Scary Tales was tied with Run as the best haunted house in the park. You basically entered a soundstage, after waiting on line and listening to the rides theme song over and over again. Once inside, you first saw what looked like old carnival haunted house ride, and then, following it's track, you enter a vortex tunnel, and you're in a heavily themed maze with all kind of fairy tale (mostly) monsters attacking you. This house also had the most effects than any other maze. I'm looking foward to Scary Tales II at Islands of adventure in 2002!
Pitch Black- A mysterious zone of darkness has appeared causing weird disturbance. It's up to you to investigate...if you dare.
A very well done haunted maze, that was almost in complete darkness. You ended up bumping into the person in front of you a lot, and were touched by many different substances (couldn't see what they were in the dark) like wet stips of plastic, air, and you also had to squeeze through some areas of moving walls pressing against you. It seemed to have an underlyeing alien theme.
Run- Become a guest contestant in a diabolical new game where there are no questions, no prizes, and only one rule- Try to escape, without losing your mind.
Along with Scary Tales, this had to be the best, and most unusual Haunted House in the park. First, an annoucer would tell you to start when the bell rings. As soon as it did, a gate would open, and you would enter a maze made out of beds... this part was very dark and very short, with only one employee showing you where to go, then you entered into the lit section of the maze, made entirely out of chain link fence. In a few places throughout the maze, employees would change the gates every so often, you with the strobe lights on, and the fog going, and the "construction workers" shooting "nails" at you, it was very easy to get seperated with the people you were with, and you could be going around in circles for a long time, because the gates would keep on changing. Like it said in the Halloween Horror Nights brochure, you would have to "try to escape, without losing your mind." I was disoriented after the maze all through Jaws and Bill and Ted!
Shows and EntertainmentBill and Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure- Party on as those two most excellent time traveling dudes, Bill & Ted, are back again in an ALL NEW adventure.
Being my first year to Halloween Horror Nights, the Bill and Ted Show wasn't what I expected. I expected something that at least related to Halloween. Instead, it was a parody of the years major movies, singers, and TV shows. I guess people dressing up as celebritys goes along with the dressing up part of Halloween. It was an okay show.
Dangerous D'Illusions - Internationally acclaimed illusionist Franz Harary, designer of large scale stage illusions for concert tours by Michael Jackson, Alice Cooper, and others, proforms feats that will boggle your mind.
Good show, with good magic tricks, but way too short.
The Ooze Zone-Fright Club- Journey throught darkness and emerge in a cermony filled with frights, fun, and FOAM, then wind your way out through a dark maze of horrifying minions of the night.
This was more of a haunted house than a show or entertainment. It was in the Kongfrontation building, and instead of going up to the tram station, you would go down to the street. In the first part of the ride building, you walked through a corrodor of chainlink fence and burlap, while hearing dog barking in the background. They had the exploding train car on, so when you got to that part of the building, you may have been suprized by an explosion. Then, you went into the East River portion of the building, under the first Kong (running). In this part, giant foam machines were set up, so if you got there early in the night, you could walk through walls of foam and be compleatly covered, while dance music is playing. Next, you walk through some more chain link fence, this time with monsters, past the second Kong (also running), and out of the building.
Boogeymen- Experience the terror of the scariest film madmen ever to slash the silver screen. Just keep on telling yourself "It's only a movie...It's only a movie!"...or is it?
This was the worst thing in the park. They showed you an advertizement for a video that they were selling called Boogeymen. If I would have known what it was, I would have skipped it.
Nightmares on Parade- The streets come alive with this goulish procession of Halloween images that will haunt you forever.
It's the normal Halloween Horror nights parade, with a toned down name. I wish I filmed it, but I wasn't into filming parades back then. In involved lots of stiltwalkers, floats, coins, and beads (like mardi gras). The people throwing out the beads and coins are guests to the park too. Try getting on the float if they have it again. Too bad there aren't any plans for a parade in 2002. Am I wrong?
Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue- The normal daytime Beetlejuice show. Other Entertainment- Although these are the only things listed under shows and entertainment on the map, there was much more. Jugglers, contorinist, the rat lady, and other street entertainment.
Street Scares-Three spine-tingling scare zones where hundreds of mutants and monsters waiting to frighten the living daylights out of you!Midway of the Bizzare- This is where Jack and the rest of the clowns hung out. The Unknown-Originally called the Dead Zone, this area was heavily fogged with camaflogued monsters attacking you. Nightmare Alley-Movie monsters were used here hiding in props from the boneyard. |
