In 1860 George Brus with his wife Mary Schalz came to the United States from Frankfurt, Germany by sail ship. They crossed the plains by covered wagon and settled in the state of South Dakota. It is not known how many children they may have had, but our ancestor, George H. Bruce. George Brus changed the spelling of his name upon arrival to the United States like many imigrants to the more anglicized form of Bruce. He and Mary remained in South Dakota the rest of their lives. ~ to be continued...
