In the beginning there was Nelson Hancock who was a white
slave owner from Georgia. Nelson owned a number of slaves - all
of African decent. We assume much of this information at this point
because records do not verify family folklore.
She was a young slave girl who worked in his home. We use
the word "she" because her name is unknown to us. Nelson
impregnated this young girl and a boy child was born in 1843. He
too was named Nelson and listed as "Mulatto". Nelson Sr. died sometime
around 1899.
Young Nelson grew to manhood and united in marriage with
Mary Henderson and to this marriage three children were
born
Allen - John - Susan.
On these next few pages you will find information about the
African decendents of Nelson Hancock and learn of their
rich heritage that still prevails to this day.

Lyontina Olivia Christopher Strawn, granddaughter of Claude and Olivia Christopher, is the new editor of the Motherwise Newsletter. Tina met the editor of the website, www.motherwise.org some time ago. Due to the heavy load that she has in maintaining the site and answering questions from readers about being a mother, she asked Tina to serve as editor of the newsletter. New material is posted on this site monthly. Family members are encouraged to check out the website to see what we as Christian parents can and should be using as a measuring device for successful parenting. Tina would welcome and pass on any responses to this website. |
