| HandMade is a team of Sign Language interpreters, who have specialised in Performance interpreting since 1999. It consists of four girls: Nana Toft Margit Andreasen Riinette Askgaard Heidi Toft Loholt We have interpreted a very varied series of events, ranging from poetry evenings to big outdoor music concerts. HandMade started as a reaction to the lack of accessibility for Deaf people in Danish culture settings. Deaf people in Denmark today have the possibility of requiring a Sign Language interpreter for such events, but HandMade feels that the field of music and theatre etc. is a special field, which requires an extra preparation and differently skilled interpreter, namely: A performance Interpreter. Our Objective Our objective is to raise awareness regarding the need for performance interpreting at cultural events, in order to increase the accessibility for Deaf people. Another as important aim is to research the area of performance interpreting, but this requires willing co-operation from the perfomers side and the cultural inistitutions. Our Vision Deaf people need a visualising of the information other people receive through hearing. This can be words, rhythms, and moods, but also many other elements. If theatre plays, concerts, poetry sessions, stand up comedy, etc. is being interpreted in Sign Language, Deaf people are given the possibility of choosing themselves, which events the want to take part in, instead of the decision being made for them.
