About Wyken
Wyken (Pronounced Why-kin) is now a part of the City of Coventry, it's centre being approximately three miles North East of Coventry city centre, it is in the diocese of Lichfield and the hundred of Knightlow. The oldest building in Wyken (and Coventry) is St. Mary Magdelene Church in Wyken Croft which was originally built in the 11th century about the same time as the now ruined Caludon castle. The original village of Wyken opposite the church, (13 houses according to Dr. William Thomas, 1730) has long since disappeared under the urban sprawl of Coventry, and Wyken itself now covers a much larger area. The last boundary expansion of Wyken came in 1993 when Combe fields was added from the parish of Rugby.
