Do you remember the New White Rose? I had my 20th birthday there in Nov 68'. There was also a place down the street where you could rent a booth and listen to records. I'm sure it must be different now. I do remember there was a Coca Cola plant just outsi e the city. When we drove up to Udorn they were still using elephants for heavy equipment! I worked on some of the base telephone cables (pressure)on Korat and over towards Friendship. Not the best manholes in the world! Most of my time I was up in Udorn n a new cable pressure scheme. I didn't get to spend much time in the states. I was stationed at Patrick AFB FL but was TDY to SEA most of my time there! Good site.. Thanks for the memories. Was stationed at Korat 66-67..then went to Udorn 68-69.All with the control tower and Rapcon AFCS Sqdn..I just recently went back to Korat and Udorn in Nov 99. Both places have really changed. Korat is the 2nd largest city in Thailand and neither base is what is used to be..Both cities have Airports but not the AB runways..There is a pizza hut in both cities. Dunkin Donuts, KFC and Dairy Queen in Korat...Both cities have a large indoor shopping center just like we have in the US...Food is still good and t e BAHT is super...40-1....makes a great vacation better...Was treated super by the locals and I can still speak enough Thai that I didn't get into trouble...Great site.

Hank, Great site! Have retired to Tennessee. Your page brought back many memories. Some good, some bad. Stationed in Korea at a very remote radar site just outside of Kimpo from 1955 to 1956.Although a truce had been signed, someone was still shooting at s and we would return fire. So much for peace time service!! Left Air Force in 1962 as Staff Sgt, often wished i had stayed longer. Sign of old age = every single base I was assigned to has closed. (5) I hope that I had nothing to do with their closing. Keep up the good work. P.S. I was stationed in Korea with fellows from Rumford.

Great site, Hank. Thanks for the pictures. Brought back memories of Rivet Top and Udorn/Korat 67-68. I was a SSgt then too. I remember that I lived off base in a fenced house with hired Thai guards (but we still got robbed) They took all our shoes wh le we slept. I also remember a big Christmas Party In Udorn before leaving for Korat. It rained a lot in Udorn. When we left Udorn we flew a mission, then recovered at Korat. Coincidently, College Eye arrived at Korat the same day. We landed first an got the huge reception planned for College Eye. It seems that we were so secret the "welcome to Korat" committee didn't know we were coming.
