Oct. 2004 - present NI Publishing DeKalb, IL News editor * Responsible for editing, design and writing duties for the DeKalb County weekly The Midweek and the monthly entertainment magazine Take ONE * Edit news stories, proof every page of the paper, take pictures, design feature packages and other pages (including page 1) using Quark XPress * Write feature stories as centerpiece packages on the front page * Write four to seven pieces for the weekly paper, including a television review, music reviews, local entertainment-related stories and interviews with authors and artists. Aug. 2002 - Aug. 2003 Free Press Newspapers Wilmington, IL Staff writer * Responsible for news coverage in Braidwood, a town of 5,000 in Will County. On a normal week, that consisted of four to six stories involving all beats, including city council, schools, features and police, as well as a weekly entertainment column published in the chain's "common" section. * Also was given the duties of photographer and designer for the weekly Braidwood Journal..Photos were taken with a Nikkon Coolpix and design was completed with Quark XPress. * Additional responsibilities included weekly story meetings with editors of other newspapers in the chain, editing sports stories and representing the paper at the chamber of commerce.
