| I'm sorry but these have to be my favourite game series of all time with the exception of the Sonic games and the Monkey Island series. This review bit will cover the games currently out of: Resident Evil. The game that started it all in turn took its inspiration from the likes of the Alone in the Dark games and also from the many zombie and other monster films out there. As this site also includes these films (or eventually will) I shall very interestingly set out the films bits of the games have been taken from. For those 2 people unfamilier with the story (yes you there!) here it is in its censored version. People have been going missing in the Arklay mountains, and dead bodies keep appearing, in response Racoon city have sent out an elite unit called S.T.A.R.S to investigate what is causing this. After Bravo team failed to return the secound team Alpha were sent to find them, but after landing demonic dogs attack them, and the survivors are forced to seek refuge in an old mansion- "where they thought they were safe..." Hmm sorry i cant get the knack of talking interesting or funny, damn. The game is a 3rd person survival horror, with a choice of 2 characters. The aim is to try and escape the house while killing all zombies and other creatures on the way using a multitude of weapons ranging from a Beretta, to flame throwers and the mighty rocket launcher. Film influences: Zombies-any bloomin zombie film ever seen, Dogs- Akira (probaly), Crows-the birds, Giant flesh eating plant- little shop of horrors, spiders-Aracniphobia(whatever the things called) Hunters-erm uh Monsters Inc (its true its true!)sorry anyway overall though a bit old-8.9/10. Resident Evil 2 Wow this game is better then the first! Widly viewed as a fact this game while being shorter and easier then the first is fantastic! This time around the t-virus has spread to Racoon city, with the game being centered around the comedic adventure of a rookie cop on his first day of work, and a girl looking for her brother. Though the game is set in the city most the action takes place indoors, starting off in the Racoon city police department, then going though the sewers to the abandened factory. Plays the same as the first one with some new weapons, such as the crossbow and brilliant new baddies such as the cool 'lickers' Giant croc-Lake placid, lickers-Alladin, William Birkins monster- The Thing and Mr X- any stalker/killer film such as fiday the 13th.overall- 9.4/10. Resident Evil 3-Nemesis The third game in the series is unfourtunatly the least interesting. The developers must have listerned to complaints about the game being set indoors, so decided to make the vast majority of the game outdoors, sadly this means rather then the big buildings to explore like in the first 2, all there is is narrow streets and smaller buildings, like the Hospital and the clock tower, though you do get to revisit the police station from RE2.The game is set before and after the events of resident evil2 in Racoon city and features Jill Valentine the survivor from the original game attempting to escape the city. Again new weapons like the... COUGH... appear and new baddies such as the scary, yet annoying Nemesis character which chases you the whole game and new bad guys such as.. well that would ruin it for people who havnt played it. Film monsters again- Nemesis-friday the 13th, Giant worm-tremors, Zombies-Thriller song video (as they now rise up out of graves! Overall a dissapointment though i do still quite like it!- 7.9/10 . Yeah im on a roll now! Resident Evil- Code Veronica Wow this game is big, being the biggest resident evil game yet created. Claire Redfield having survived RE2 is back, and is still searching for her brother. Unfourtunatly for her she gets captured by the Umbrella corparation in the opening story and is carted off to a prison facility situated on a small island. Predictably though zombies start appearing. Her jailor fatally injured decides to let Claire go. The boss of the island- Alexander sees Claire as responsible for the air strike which let loose the zombies so appears through out the game to try and kill her (as you do). The game features the best RE graphics yet with no more fixed perspective rooms and traditional gothic music. Locations this time range from the island to Antartica(!) and new weapons include a slow to fire laser gun. Film baddies- Alexander-Psycho, Bandersnatchers-evil dead?, bats-Bats, Overall a good game and better then the 3rd one 8.5/10. Resident Evil Gun Survivor I swear that i am the only person in the entire universe who enjoyed this game! Sure the graphics are quite rough but its the first, first person RE game (sort of). The story in my opinion is simply the best the RE games have ever seen. At the start of the game the helicopter your in crash lands, near where you landed a scientest also fallen out of the copter lies dead, and you yourself have no memory of who you are or where you are. Through the game you piece together your identity and find out that you are a bad guy who created the zombie virus- called Vincent. The game is set on a large island which all the RE baddies are roaming and your main aim is to discover your identity and flee the island. The controls are quite bad but i love this game! New locations include a cinema, a night club and a Mr X production factory! Film bit: No new baddies but the production factory is prehaps similer to the Terminator production factory. A bit rough but good to rent out- 6.1/10. Resident Evil Gun Survivor 2 Nooooo! the first truly awful RE game! Whats going on? Basically this is a remake of code veronica created in first person mode and featuring a guest appearance from the Nemesis. The game has a time limit so players are forced to zoom through the short levels as quickly as possible in order to escape it. Please just forget this freak was ever made avoid like the plague...Capcom how could you do this to me your loyal follower?Overall-dum dum dah-2.6/10. Resident Evil-Gaiden This is quite a classy little game for the Game Boy colour. Of course it would be impossible to recreate the Re experience perfectly but this is still good. When you encounter a baddie it turns into a shooting arcade where you have to line up the gun hairs with the enemies, it works quite well. The main game has a NES metal gear solid type look to it, and works well, the main fault with this is lack of health and ammunition and the fact that zombies are the only monsters in the game. Barry Burton and Leon Kennedy have gone to the cruser called Gaiden (probably) following a strange distress call, arriving they find nearly everyone dead and a strange creature which is capable of turning anyone into zombies. Nearly the entire game takes place on the ocean crusier with a small section taking place on an Umbrella submarine. Hmm overall i would say while not a classic this title passes as plain average and just about good-5.4/10 Silent Hill Wow again i love this game it is so darn creepy! Created to cash in on RE's success this manages to create it's own breed of terror. If this was a film it would be done in the style of 'The Blair Witch Project' or 'Ring' |
