Delete Temporary Internet Files Delete AOL Cache Scandisc Defrag These Can Affect Your Connection Virus's Spyware Data Miners Keyloggers Trojans Removal Tools for these can be downloaded free from WILDERS.ORG More things you can do If you have a noisy phone line get BT to fix it (UK) See if BT can increase the gain on your line Ask BT if they have converted your line to DACS (shared) This gives you half the bandwidth Complain to BT Check all modem connections, leads, extension cables and splitters for damage Check your modem is not loose in it's slot Are your phone sockets damp? (does happen) Check phone equipment by removing and connecting directly to wall socket Check your pc is not overheating, all fans are working and not blocked with fluff and dust. Air vents are clear and not obstructed Run scandisk on the thorough setting to test the hard drive for defects Run a memory diagnostic program, good one from microsoft recommended for slow pc problems Microsoft online crash analysis - windiag Remove your AOL networking components and your modem drivers then reinstall them, they can get damaged Delete all global.org files and restart Uninstall AOL Adapter Replace the main.idx file in the idb folder with the file from the backup folder Deleting, compacting or thinning out your pfc can also help. Large pfc's can get corrupted by the pc crashing and/or being switched off at the plug, causing slow connection if you find using an alternative screen name gives you no problems then it will be the pfc at fault Remove excess programs from start up Some appear as if by magic Run msconfig to prune them down Some areas of the country are experiencing phone problems at the moment, causing connections to be slow.
