Have you as a new user ever felt you were treated like this:

at some newsgroups or chat rooms?

Well, use the sites below, invest a little time and soon, you will not be a newbie!

Start Here

http://help.webtv.net
Read _all_ the pages!!

use msntv's own Status Board if you are having trouble, it may tell you that there are troubles sending e-mails to a certain addy, and the problem is being worked on.

http://developer.msntv.com/status_board/stat.html

Then set up your e-mail settings to save your e-mails, so you won't accidentally delete something.

Plus users, go to your TV Home and adjust the settings to optimize what you see.

learn to use proper netiquete

Internet Etiquite

http://www.darkmountain.com/netiquette/index.shtml

http://www.learnthenet.com/english/html/09netiqt.htm

remember if you are in a news group that starts out alt.discuss that is webtv/msntv "firewalled" newsgroup, that means only fellow webtv/msntv users will be there.

other newsgroups without the alt.discuss prefix are used by pc users, be very careful to use proper netiquete in these groups, even doing so, you may be harrassed, or "flamed" simply because you have a webtv.net e-mail addy.

IMPORTANT!!!! Check your phone billing before starting webtv/msntv service _MAKE SURE_ you have UNLIMITED local access and UNLIMITED connections _*OR*_ be prepared to pay almost as much as your webtv/msntv cost (true story 2 months I paid 300+$$$, till the new rates started)

Check if webtv/msntv is dialing a local number for you

http://www.msntv.com/lookup/local_access.html

have fun with your webtv/msntv, you can't hurt it, there are a _very_ few "e-mail bombs" that can hurt you, dont open e-mail from strangers, unless you posted a question somewhere, read through a ng to get a sense of who the knowledgeable posters are .. ie in users barbie, IOM, Paul Ding, Tex, etc are "very reliable"

mostly the biggest problem that webtv has allowed since 1998 is the javascript-bug where you don"t see a title in the "status bar" that strip by the up and down arrows, at the bottom of the page, it is cured by refreshing or reloading the page by holding the CMD key and tapping the R key about 6 times.

At the worst you "freeze"!

nothing works or moves as you want, you can't even power off, so pull the plug wait a bit then power on again!

_BE Careful_ if you decide to check out hacker ng's, yes you can hack (limitedly, on webtv/msntv) there is an "amnesia" hack where you lose your account info...BUT a call to 1-800-gowebtv can restore your account.

_Always_ unplug the power to the webtv/msntv receiver before connecting camcorder's, the scanner, printers, or hooking up a vcr.

Every week webtv/msntv service shuts down on Wednesday's from 1:00 am to 4:00 am pacific time zone.

Depending on your mail and TV settings, the receiver may turn itself on twice a day.

the red dot by the arrows.. MEANS THE CAPS LOCK KEY IS IN USE, YOU ARE SHOUTING!!!

Want to see (imo) the best drawings made at imagemagick?? http://www.wtv-zone.com/LadyBoheme/LDBtheatre/
it takes a lot of time to learn how to use imagemagick, but it is the "coolest" thing you can do on msn/webTV!!!!

Want to ask me something?

E-Mail me at bige@draac.com

It figures one of the few things I am "really good" at is non paying:):):)
