The Vikas engine is employed in the second stage of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle
as well as the second and the four strap-on stages of Geo-Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle
The Vikas engine is capable of swiveling. The Vikas engine carries 40 metric tons of liquid propellant — Unsymmetrical Di-Methyl Hydrazine (UDMH) as fuel and Nitrogen Tetroxide (N2O4) as oxidizer. It generates a maximum thrust of 725 kN. The up-rated version of the Vikas engine develops a chamber
pressure of 58.5 bar against 52.5 bar in the old version. The new engine has the potential to increase the payload capability of GSLV by about 150 kg in the Geo-Synchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
