Short story writer and novelist in Malayalam, the language of Kerala in South India, E. Harikumar is a well known writer in Kerala. Kerala is the land of coconut palm groves and sunshine. The land of lakes and mountains. Of sea and sand. The trees are so green and lush, it is called the God's Own Land. Born on 13th July 1943 in Ponani a coastal town between Calicut and Cochin.
Parents: Edasseri Govindan Nair, well-known poet and playwright and E. Janaki Amma.

He has won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for the year 1988 for collection of short stories titled Dinosarinte Kutty (The Dinosaur's Baby), Padmarajan Award in 1997 for the best story of the year 'Pachhapayyine Pidikkan' (To Catch A Grasshopper) and Nalappadan Award for the book Sookshichu Vacha Mayilpeeli (Peacock Feather Treasured) in 1998. E. Harikumar was a member of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, the foremost literary institution  under the Cultural Department of Government of Kerala, for two terms from 1998 till 2004.

He has to his credit 23 books of which 13 are anthology of short stories, 9 novels  and a memoir.
Novels: Urangunna Sarpangal, Asaktiyude Agninalangal, Oru Kudumbapuranam, Engine Drivere Snehicha Penkutti, Ayanangal, Thadakatheerathu, Pranayathinnoru Software, Kochambratti and Ariyathalangalilekku.
Stories: Koorakal, Vrishabhathinte Kannu, Kumkumam Vithariya Vazhikal, Dinosarinte Kutti, Canadayilninnoru Rajakumari, Sreeparvathiyude Paadam, Sookshichu Vacha Mayilpeeli, Pachappayine Pidikkan, Doore Oru Nagarathil, Karutha Thambratti, Anithayude Veedu. Nagaravasiyaya Oru Kutti and a collection  of stories written between 1966 and 1996 titled Ilaveyilinte Santhwanam.

His eighth novel 'Kochambratti' (see picture right) meaning Young Mistress has been published by Mathrubhumi Books, Cherootty Road, Kozhikode 673 001. It is a novel about the big social and economic upheaval that took place in Kerala, South India during the period 1955 to 1960, (when Communists came to power through ballots) and about a girl who had to take tough decisions when left alone to live.
