I was born February 24,1902 in Wilson County, TN, the son of Daniel Ernest Fite and Violet Brilla Jennings Fite. My ancestors came from Germany to the United States in 1749. I was educated in the public schools of Middle TN. I earned my bachelors from Middle TN State University. My Masters & Doctorate degrees were earned at Peabody College, now a division of Vanderbilt University. I started teaching at the age of 20 as a principal of a two-teacher school in Auburntown, TN. I later was principal of high schools in Coffee and Cannon counties. I then taught four years at Memphis University School before becoming a teacher and later Dean at Austin Peay University, Clarksville, TN. After a few years as Education Officer with TN Valley Authority, I became affiliated with North AL State University at Florence, AL. From 1948 through 1968 I was President of Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. For eleven years after I retired from the presidency of Carson-Newman College, I was the vice-president of Morristown Federal Savings & Loan. DR. DANIEL HARLEY FITE PASSED AWAY 12/31/2003.
