Rector to be quizzed again over weapons
AMBON, Maluku: Police investigators are planning to question again Muhammad
Attamimi, the rector of Ambon State Islamic Institute (STAIN), for his role in the
alleged storage of weapons and explosives within the institute's compound. Attamimi
was earlier questioned in his capacity as a witness in the case.
While in an earlier questioning session police focused on finding out why the weapons
and explosives were stored in the institute compound, in the second session to be
held soon, the rector would face interrogation over his alleged links with several terror
groups that have been waging terror in the province in the past few years, a police
officer said on Friday. The weapons and explosives were found in the institute's
compound on May 19, which led to the questioning of Attamimi on May 31, said
police officer Sr. Comr. Leonidas Braksan, chief of Ambon Police.
The weapons and explosives included 12 rifles including M-16s and AK-47s, 700
homemade bombs and 207 bullets. -- JP
