To My Kendrick Family Page!!

Judith Kendrick was my 2nd Great Grandmother.

She was the Mother of Addison Hassell, My Great Grandfather.

She was the Daughter of Austin Kendrick and Mary Wiley.

I don't know much about Judith Yet.

But what I have found is here,
and I would appreciate any additional info anyone has...

We Know the family was in Columbia
County, Georgia and Surrounding Areas.

Judith was born about 1797 in Columbia County, Georgia.

She had a child out of Wedlock, with George Edward Hassell
on 21 July 1821 in Appling, Columbia, Georgia.

The baby was named Addison.

Due to the fact that G. Edward and Judith were not married,
Addison was born as Addison Kendrick.
But Judith gave Addison to his Natural father. (G. Edward)
So he was raised by G. Edward and his wife
Martha "Patsy" Fleming Hassell.
G. Edward petitioned the Legislature of the
State of Georgia to change the baby's
name to Addison Hassell.
The Legislature acted 27 Nov 1826,
and the name was changed.

While on a trip to Georgia to study my Ancestry,
I found a Record in a book at the
Columbia County Court House which reads as follows....

COLUMBIA COUNTY:
Lot 56-9 Lee. Addison Hassel. Formerly Addison Kendrick,
(Illegitimate child of Judah Kendrick, now Judah Going),
his name having been changed by an Act of the General Assembly, 1826 Session,
see Dawsons Digest page 329,
appoints Dr. Nathan Crawford as att'y for himself
and LITTLEBERRY A. KENDRICK of Alabama,
to take out a grant to lot 56-9th dist. Lee County.
Signed: Addison Hassel. bef. James D. Green, J.P. 15 June 1843.
Pers. app'd. Addison Hassel, formerly Addison Kendrick,
to claim lot 56-9-1 of the 1827 lottery,
drawn by Judah Greene's illegitimate children, which was in error when entered,
and should have been Judah Kendrick's illegitimate children.
Signed: Addison Hassel. bef. James D. Green. J.P. 15 June 1843.

It is Unknown who the Father of the
Child listed as, LITTLEBERRY A. KENDRICK of Alabama, is.
It is to be presumed that he (or she) is older than Addison,
because Judith had married by the end of 1822.
Anyone with any information, please email me!!

On 1 November 1822, Judith married Joseph Goings.
They had 5 Children that I know of:

Francis, John W., William, James, and Mary.

It has long been thought that Joseph and Judith Going
moved to Dougherty County after their marriage:
There is a Judith and Joseph enumerated in the
1860 Census for Dougherty County, Georgia.
It is unsure if this is Judith and her husband or her Son.
But, because Judith is listed in the Land Lottery,
we must assume it to be her son,
because the only way she could apply for the land lottery
is if she was a widow...

You can check out my Gedcom file for Kendrick.

This will give you what info I have on Judith
