DS Editor - a graphical editor in C
This was my mini project which i had to complete as a part of computer graphics. I did it individually. Its a Ms Paint like editor for drawing. The use of well known algorithms instead of standard libraries for drawing is the feature of the editor.

e hostel - a hostel management web application in asp and DB2
This is web application developed using Active Server Pages (ASP) running on Internet Information Service IIS 5.1 which uses IBM DB2 as the back end. It was developed by me and 3 other friends - Abhinandan , Chethan and Varun. It is developed keeping in mind NITK hostels , but can be easily modified to any other. It includes 3 kinds of users. The guest users, the students living in the hostels and the hostel administrators. The later two have their own logins. The application involves registration of new students, allotment of rooms, notification, complaints and suggestions online. Search for students was implemented. It also has ePurchase section for students to sell and buy used items like books , mobiles, computer hardware etc. Chit allocation which is a manual process in NITK hostel has been made online. The office members of NITK hostels have given their support in the application development.
An portable version of the application with MS access was later developed. Use of ASP restricted us running application on Windows platform.
e Recruit - a recruitment portal for a college
It is found that however good a selection process be but due to human nature there is always some error in selecting the best candidates from a set of application during the recruitment process. With this in mind i along with my friend Abhinandan started the development of an application which has minimum human involvement in terms of selecting the candidates.
The project was developed using Visual Basic and ASP as the front end and MS Access as the back end. Its has good use of SQL statements in it. With over 50 forms in the VB , it took more than 80 hours of coding and 2 months of planning and design before that. We have great anticipation about this project. The students and the Administrator as well as the Companies coming for recruitment have separate accounts. Companies prepare their test, customize their Interview and Group Discussion , View students performance , display results , upload presentations and notices and lot more .... The students register for companies based on their eligibility and interests , take tests , read messages from the companies, ppts and lots more ....
We have used ASP for the display of different kinds of results.
Workshop on Network Simulations
I had an opportunity to volunteer and participate in N.B.A.A Workshop organized by National Board of Accreditation, AITCE, New Delhi at NITK Surathkal on 19-20th dec 2005. Under the guidance of Dr. Rio D'Souza, we did some simulation and analysis of networks using open source simulator - NS2. We used NS2 simulator for windows, Network Animator NAM and windows version of GNU Plot.Other members of our team were Varun, Abhinandan, Suhas, Prasad, Jenny, Manoj, Arjun, TJ ...
I gave a presentation on performance analysis using ns2 - both for TCP and UDP traffic. Our presentation was appreciated by the participants of the workshop. It was fun doing it . We also had demonstration of some of commercial network simulator by representatives of the company - NetSim, LAN Trainer and iSecuriT during the workshop. I learnt tcl (Tool Command Language) scripting which is required for simulating networks using NS2.
e BID - an auction web site with advanced features life mobile bidding
As a part of Internet Technology and application subject i along with 5 other classmates developed a online bidding application similar to eBay . The project was developed in JSP with MY SQL as the back end ... It has all the features of an bidding web site like search for item , user management , RSS syndication for adds ,inbox for users and advances features like advanced search and mobile bidding. We had developed a mobile server called eBid SMS server for receiving bid sent by users using their mobile phones. This server was developed using vb with mCore component.
i Learn - a package consisting of a web portal for a institute and a desktop RSS reader
This is a project developed by me along with Varun and Abhinandan as a part of Software Engineering Subject. The highlight of this project is the set of extensive document we have prepared initially , during the project and the final report. The Project consists of 2 parts
1) WEB LEARN : This is a web portal developed in ASP.Net for effective communication between students and teachers in a college . This portal enables professors to upload course materials which the student can access.The portal enables to submit their assignments online from any where in the world . It also provides the RSS feed for each professor and for each subject he teaches . Also we have developed our own CALENDAR feed format and we have provided with each professor with a calendar feed. MS SQL Server 2000 is the backend and the application runs on IIS web server.
2) FEED EXPRESS : This is a desktop application developed in VB.NET using visual studio 2005 . It maintains a MS Access database. It uses tortuga component which is an RSS parser.It has a customizable interface and students can create , edit and delete categories and subscribe to new feeds. Users can also set the synchronization frequency. The application runs in background and alerts the users when ever new feeds are available.
This project is also been submitted to microsoft student project competition. Our team name is 'nitktitans '
GELCHAT - AJAX Based chat application. This was developed as a part of my Industrial Training at GMR Energy Limited (GEL) , Near Tanir Bavi , Mangalore. GEL is a naphtha based power plant. GEL has excellent management ,good work environment and they have set very high standards in industry. It has an excellent IT infrastructure administered by Mr Ramprasad Padala.There are 4 servers in GEL server room for mail , intranet and internet applications. GEL has a portal called gelnet developed by a chennai based company. During my IT i along with Vinod Patil , Pushpa Kumar and Manoj mayura developed an AJAX Based chat application in ASP. NET. This application is currently available to users of getnet and has been linked to gelnet. It runs on IIS server.
