On Sept 24, 1975 , a 9lb. 13oz. baby boy was born into this world in Phonix, Arizona. His parents were told he was perfectly healthy, Shortly after though, something alerted the doctors and staff that this was not the case. From all outward appearence, the baby looked normal. Then suddenly he started turning blue and was admitted into an isolation unit. After testing, it was discovered that the heart was found on the wrong side of the body, (the right side) . Further testing was immediately done an amazingly they found , all internal organs were reversed. It is known to the medical world as situs inversus vescerum. The heart, liver, spleen, intestines, were all on the opposite sides of the body. The hospital staff continued testing to see what was causing the bluish coloring . Again what they found was alarming. The pulmonary artery has a valve that opens and closes feeding blood to the lungs. In this baby's case it was obstructed, thus causing the blue color of skin. This childs's parents just happened to be serious Apostolic folks, they believed that God would intervene, through prayer, so they went to praying and their church did as well. Meanwhile surgery was needed, they had to cut directly under the shoulder blade to get to the lungs. It appeared they had solved the problem. However after 3 short years the little boy weighed only 18 pds, obviously something was terribly wrong ! The child was then flown to Birmingham Alabama, for further testing. Once there, open heart surgery was the solution. After surgery things again started to look good for this little boy. During surgery doctors placed what is known as a conduit tube with a pig's valve to take the place of the artery and the pulmonic valve that was malfunctioning. This was to enable blood to get to his lungs so he would have an adequete supply. As time passed he gained weight, looked alot healthier, and began to live a normal life. He played ball, visited his buddy's home, and did well in school. Actually he won many awards in reading and art, at one point (3rd grade) he read more pages then anyone , from kindergarten through junior high school. Also chosen for young aspiring artists 3 years in a row! In 4th grade he decided to learn the violin, again he excelled , winning many awards and playing solos for his school. Upon entering junior high he was chosen both years to play for the All-State and Greater Phonix orchestra of young men and women. It wasen't until High school , he began to feel easily fatigued in whatever he was involved in. Once again medical attention became necessary. The doctors decided he would need catherazation. This would mean cutting small openings in his groin, and incerting a tube with a balloon that would shoot dye into the heart to see if or where there was an obstruction. They found that the conduit tube was calcified with dairy products ingested over the past 11 years. Which was cutting off the blood flow to the heart. Once again open -heart surgery was needed. Although very upset by this he hung on to his faith in God, and underwent the scalpel to prolong his life. After the surgery he improved dramatically, and continued his education,an even graduate a year ahead of schedule. In a class of 500 seniors, he being a junior placed 23rd! From Maryvale High School in 1992 he was awarded Cum Laude and the President's scholarship to a local community college. This paid for the two years of education. However in June 1994, he was hospitalized yet again with severe abdominal pain. After 8 grueling hours of testing and fighting to sustain his life, they found his intestines had shut down as well as twisted into a knot! This shut off all vascular action surrounding the intestines thus causing severe pain. But Jesus was not through with this boy, surgery again was necessary, but now it was late in the evening. There wasen't a surgeon on duty with the expertese to operate. Some may call this coincidence , I call it "GOD". A surgeon capable of this kind of surgery had forgotten something in his office and returned to the hospital , seeing that the young man would not make it if sent immediatly to surgery, he instructed the staff to stabilize his vitals. Later surgery was performed, and he was sent to ICU. Later the parents were told " had he waited 30 minutes more , there would have been no way possible to save his life" The young man was given a ileostomy that served in place of his natural function to dispose of his wastes. After 2 months he requested they reverse the surgery, but after trying the found it was not possible. This young man was not going to be satisfyied with a bag taped to his side day and night, if the truth be told he found it disgusting. So he set out to find a doctor that would be able to do something about this situation. Finally after consulting with a few different doctors, one told him about 2 risky procedures. One of them not yet approved by the FDA. The other option was to have surgery once again, and they would cut the intestine and make an "s" shape with it. It was to make a reservoir to hold all the waste, and a tube would be inserted in his side with a valve to release the waste at his convenience. He agreed to it , and the surgery was done. As with most things in life the problems didn't end there. The first of which, was when he was allowed to have liquid food. After surgery the intestines being touched by human hands tend to "go to sleep" and don't move for some time. Usually a day or so will go by and they will resume normal activity. When he was allowed the food it only built up pressure and caused great pain, to the extent he was given morphine and demerol. The doctor kept him in the hospital to heal. But he would have to have surgery as soon as possible. His next surgery would once again leave him with the "bag". Following that he sent the young man home with all his tubes, and medication. It was for six weeks until the intestines calmed down, and he could recuperate enough to have the surgery redone. The following six weeks were some of the most difficult times. Not only did he have to recuperate but he now was becoming addicted to the medication. Each time he would get up his heart would "kick in" and he felt as though he would pass out. He grew very listless and needed help with everything he did. He learned his body was like a car. In order for a car to run , all parts need to work cohesively. When the intestines were cut this changed the chemical balance within the body, which caused his heart to go into an artrial flutter countless times. Several times his heart kicked in so hard he was re-admitted and cardioverted. There were a few times the heart rate reached 234 bpm causing alarms to go off. Finally they were able to re-establish his chemical balance. He was ready for surgery. This time though, things were done a little differently and worked out for the better. He stayed in for a week and then allowed to be discharged. Since the surgery all has not been perfect , the heart hasn't been the same ,changes in medications to control the rhythems, a few more cardioversions, all to keep him alive. But for the most part he is doing well. He now stands 5'11" tall and weighs 230 pds. God has been gracious and kind to him and allowed him 26 years of life. He's a One God , toungue-talkin , holy rollin, heaven bound believer, in the liberated power of JESUS Name . An Apostolic young man that truley loves the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.
