How does Troy describe the devil? A white fellow that got good clothes and everything, with a clipboard in his hand.

Illustrate D in Troy's eyes (make a collage or draw a picture of D to Troy's point of view).

Create our own monologue about :Aids or Youth or any other topic you to  want talk about (Structure should begin in the present and go back into the past to feel the story experience that changed life)

Lesson 6

Aim: To analyze the symbolism of Gabriel in Fences

    "People aren’t always what they seem because…"

What is a fence? A fence is a barrier intended to prevent escape or intrusion or to mark a boundary.

What  sort of problems do Troy and Rose have?

Why does Rose want Troy to build a fence?  Rose want Troy to build a fence because she want to keep the family together and to protect them.

What is a fence to Rose? Rose want Jesus to be her and her family fence.

Why doesn’t Troy finish building the fence? I think because he doesn't want to   get box in.

What is a fence to Troy?  Some thing that broke him in.

Why doesn’t he want to be kept in? I think he doesn't want to be kept in because I think that he wants to move on to a new relationship.

What are some handicaps that people have? Their race, their education, and their family.

How do people overcome their disabilities?

Baseball: How does Cory shut Troy up? When he say " You got warren Spahn and Lew Burdette. I Bet you couldn't hit no home runs off Warren Spahn.

Why doesn’t Troy want Cory to play football? Troy doesn’t want Cory to play football because Troy believe
that the white man would never let Cory nowhere near football.


Why might Troy not want Cory to go to college?

Why can’t Troy show love for Cory? Troy don't show love to him because he take care of him because it's his responsibility to take care not love him.

Why doesn’t Troy want Cory to emulate him? Troy believe that his life is a mess, and don't want Cory to have a mess up life too.

Why can’t Troy face the truth? Troy doesn't face the truth that he is too old to play in the major leagues, he believe the reason is because of his color.

Do Troy and Cory demonstrate a typical father/son relationship? No I show a boss to servant relationship, first because he compare him self to Troy and his boss, and the way Troy talk to Cory and the way he answer.

Are Cory/Rose a typical mother/sons relationship?

Visit and read the two poetry sites( site A | Site B ). Read about the word play. Think about an idea or an image you would like to describe, and then choose a poetic form to describe it.

 

Lesson 8

Aim: To analyze Cory’s relationship with his father

Do Now: Write a journal about " A person I didn’t want to be like…"

Begin reading Act I Scene 4 and answer the following questions:

Why doesn't Troy want to listen to Lyons's play? He said it too noise, he to old , and that he have wake up early in the morning.

How has Cory been successful?

Why doesn’t Troy want to accept Lyon’s money pg. 46? I think he doesn't feel like taking it back, so he told him to put it in the bank.

What does Troy discover about Cory? Pg.49 Troy  found out that Cory was lying about working at the A&P.

How does Troy describe his father pg.50-53. His father only care about if his self, not about his wife or his children and about working.

What does Troy reveal about himself? Pg. 54-44(robbery, murder, jail, Rose) Steal money and food became robber, rob some one with knife person pull out a gun and shot Troy stab his to D. Jail for fifteen year met Bono learn to play baseball. told rose only her and baseball.

How is Troy similar to his father? Pg.57 He didn't care about Cory feeling only about Cory working just like Troy father only care about him working.

How do Troy's feelings about his own wife affect his relation with his son?

Lesson 9

Aim: To analyze how Troy has built a fence around himself

Do Now: Write a journal about " A time when a friend and I had two different ideas about the same thing..."

Activities:

Continue reading 64-72 and 73-77 and discuss & answer the following questions:

What does marriage mean to Troy? Compare to baseball Troy marriage is first base and he glad for that Rose came into his life she mad him into a better man.

What does marriage mean to Rose( having loving and caring for a family; being faithful; Sticking by )

Why does Tory become violent?  Tory become violent because Rose said that Troy take and don't give.

How does Troy react when confronted with the truth? When Bono talk to Troy about his marriage with Rose it leads to Troy really admitting to cheating when he says If you was messing around on Lucille I'd be telling you the same thing.
 
How has Troy shut out all the people who care about him? He shut out all this friend and family by going down to Alberta, because he said step out of this house and get away from the pressures and problem.

Why does Rose speak out later? Rose speak out because she feel mad because was with Troy for eighteen years and all she hears is Troy complaining about his life, so she said if he think she never wanted any thing.

Why doesn’t Troy hit Cory? He gives him another chance and I think to make Rose feel kind of happy because she told him not to.
 

 

Lesson 10

Aim:

To analyze how Troy& Rose’s marriage has deteriorated pgs 70-77 (Setting six months later)

To analyze how Troy lives out the rest of his life

Do Now: Write a journal about "If I could have anything in life, I would want ____because..."

Activities:

What has life become at the Maxons? ( not speaking, Troy not coming home after work; Running in & out)

How has Troy betrayed Gable? He sign the paper that Gable should be in an mental hospital.

Read pg.78-79 : What does Troy ask of Rose? How does Rose answer? Troy ask Rose, if she could help him take care of Ray Nell. She said okay but she only going to take care of the baby. 

Read pg 80-90: How has Troy/Bono’s relationship changed? Pg82 Since Troy got the promotion troy and Bono never really had time to talk to each other.

How does Troy Confront D? pg89 After fight with Cory Troy taunts D to come for him.

Why does he now say he’s going to build a fence? Troy want to build a fence now because he was to keep Cory out.

How does Cory come to terms with his father? Pg 90-95 ( Setting: 1945 (8 years later)) . He said that his father was just a shadow that followed him every where he went, trying to control his life.
