I became aware of my interest in short hair in Jr.high.  In the eighth grade I began cutting out pictures of hairstyles and putting them in a photo album, which I hid under my matteress.  Needless to say, I had a hard time explaining it to my mother when she discovered it.  Years later, I ended up marrying a woman with long hair, who only through her love for me, has cut it repeatedly to my liking.
After a few years contemplating how or why I have this 'fetish' I finaly realized exactly why I dislike long hair on women so much-
Women with long hair do one of two things with it:  let it hang in their face or pull it back with a scrunchie or clip. There is no style, or texture.  Where women with short hair do have style and texture as well as do different things with it, sometimes daily.
Looking for an outlet for my feelings, I started surfing the web and was amazed, astonished and elated as to how many other people are out there like me.  After surfing for a few months I decided to 'Come out of the hair closet' and join the rest of you.

Hair Memories

I remember, even in preschool, admiring women's hair.  There was this beautiful blonde woman who would come pick up her child from daycare.  I remember her beautiful blonde curles, piled on top of her head in a bee-hive type fashion.  I remember wishing that my mother had beautiful hair like that.  I must have been about four years old at the time.

When I was about five, I remember my mother coming back from the Salon with a much shorter, curly hair style.  I remember having strange feelings about how she looked at that time.  I didn't know how to handle the change.

In Junior high  There was a girl, Sara, who in seventh grade was fairly unremarkable.  She had dark hair with a bad perm.  She was quiet and shy.  She moved to California in the middle of that school year.  A year later, in the middle of eighth grade, she moved back.  She had matured in that year away, she was tan, and had chopped off most of her hair, which was now sunstreaked from many days at the beach.  I remember how the boys flocked to her and gave her so much attention.

In ninth grade, Boy George was big and INXS was the hot new band.  We received a new girl.  She was all punked out and had shaved her head with what must have been a number 3 guard.  All except for a few long whisps of hair she kept for bangs.  She had fun with the styling gel, and would do different things with those bangs.  I being a nerd was confused at why I was attracted to her.  She wasn't normal.  Why would I be attracted to such a wierd person?

In Highschool there was a girl who did extreme things with her hair.  I remember gossip between 2nd and 3rd periods being how she had styled her hair.  I remember one time she had gone 'bombshell' blonde with her shoulder length hair, but she had the sides and back shaved.  The hair on the crown of her head all stood straight up.  I still don't know how she could make her hair do some of the things she seemed to be able to do with it.
