A Very Big Country is another set of reading materials
suitable for adult, adolescent or younger learners
who are grappling with English print literacy.
This set provides an introduction to Australian geography.
It is suitable for immigrants or visitors to Australia
and also fits Australian school SOSE programs.
It covers major landforms, climatic regions, states, territories and their capitals.
The reading materials are at three levels in a similar format to The First Australians
and are accompanied by A Very Big Country Workbook
which has teachers' notes, photocopiable stimulus pictures and additional information for teachers
on plant adaptations to the various Australian environments
as well as 39 pages of photocopiable exercises with suggested answers.
A sound recording of the reading texts is available on a choice of cassette or CD.
