Charlie Grau started playing music at the age of 10. He originally began by playing guitar, then switched to bass at the age of 17. In the early days he played with Eddie in garage bands such as Gemini, Zeke, Crazy Critter Band(Americana), and Warhorse. Prior to this line-up of UNBOUND, Charlie played in several bands including Alias(With Eddie,Mike and Doug), Montage(Mike and Doug), an earlier version of Unbound(Mike and Doug), and Chalice.
Charlie's versatility shows in the variety of projects and styles of music he's been involved in such as bluegrass(Off the Wall Band), comical country(Elvis Stewart and the Led Wagons), ragtime & blues(Uncle Daddy and the Family Secret), country rock(Bob Ralston), and various other studio projects.
Charlie has opened for such bands as Steppenwolf, Motorhead, Joe Lynn Turner(Rainbow), Gary Richrath(REO Speedwagon), The Hunger, Saxon and LA Guns.
Charlie's main influences are Geddy Lee(Rush), Chris Squire(Yes), John Entwistle(The Who), and Paul McCartney(Beatles).
Charlie says that he feels privileged to have worked witk so many great players.
His other interests include motorcycle riding, and flying.
Charlie grew up in Mason, Ohio and now lives in Carlisle, Ohio. |
