The April 22, 2002 meeting was opened at 2:10 p.m. by Rev. Mark Girardin. Present were Bill Duerr, Rev. Mark Girardin, Carol Messner and John Bryson.

Minutes of the March 25, 2002 meeting were presented and the Treasurer reported a balance on hand of $569.14. It was moved by Bill Duerr, seconded by John Bryson to accept reports as given. Ayes: All.

Carol Messner gave a lengthy report on the Visitors Center progress. The grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony will be held just before Memorial Day. The musical at the Community House being presented by the children at Zion Lutheran School will be held this weekend. Carol will check and be sure it is being put on cable television. With regard to fundraising, Carol Messner made a motion to donate $100 from the Historical Society to this project. Seconded by John Bryson. Ayes: All.

An update on the Maritime Festival was tabled to the next meeting.

A discussion was held on the walking tour brochure. Bill Duerr agreed to be part of this Committee, and they will have a mock-up of the brochure at the next meeting. Bill Duerr also reported on the Internet site for the Historical Society. Thank you, Bill, for the work on this project.

The recognition dinner this year was briefly discussed, and a name suggested was Ray Noble. It was agreed that we would get started on this project next month.

We also briefly discussed the Maritime Memorial service to be held in November. It was suggested by Rev. Girardin that we honor the Coast Guard this year. Rev. Girardin will also talk to Ron Kraft about the schedule for school events so that there is not a conflict with our service this year.

Upcoming events in the Harbor Beach Area:

April 25 - Wine tasting at State Street Inn, 7 p.m., sponsored by the Chamber.
April 27, 28 - Zion childrens' play at Community House.

Our next meeting will be May 20 at 2 p.m. in the Visitors Center, due to the Memorial Day weekend.

It was moved by John Bryson, seconded by Bill Duerr to adjourn. Meeting closed at 3:25 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
