COMPUTATIONAL RESOURCES IN SCHOOL OF PHYSICS
|
M.Tech(CT) students have been provided with seven dedicated PCs ( Four Pentium II-MMX & three Pentium 4) making Students to Computer ratio 1:1. Four of these have Windows operating system & the remaining have Windows as well as Linux installed on it. All PCs are equipped with C/C++/Java/Fortran compilers, MatLab, Origin, Veriwell and other softwares. Besides, one PC is connected to the Internet.
Most of the of PCs of the School are networked through LAN with the computer center so that Internet and E-mail facilities are directly accessible from laboratories and faculty offices. The school receives external support from UGC, CSIR, DST, DAE and DOE for research work.

The Computer Center is a central facility and caters to the computational needs of the students and the staff of the University. It has several Network work-stations from all major vendors equipped with the required compilers and other softwares such as IMSL routines and Mathematica. Most of the Schools/Departments of the University are networked through Ethernet to all the above systems. The University of Hyderabad is connected to the Internet via VSAT. The University is one of the transit nodes of Education and Research and Network. High speed link will soon be provided by ERNET to the University. The Center is run by a number of operators, programmers, system programmers, system managers, system analysts and is headed by a Director. The Computer Center runs round the clock i.e., 365 days a year with a few holidays.
The students of the M.Tech(CT) can avail many of the facilities from the Computer Center.

The Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (A.I. Lab) of Department of Computer Sciences houses a variety of computing machines including SUN Workstations, Pentium based Multi-Media Personal Computers running Linux, Windows NT, Windows 95 etc., all equipped with latest software packages. The A.I. Lab also includes specialized equipment for processing images, speech and multi-lingual text. These facilities are also continually augmented through funded research projects as well as industrial consultancy.
The students doing their Projects/Mini-projects/Term-Paper under the faculty of Department of Computer Science can avail the facilities of the A. I. Lab.
