Lesson #3
Ok, now that we have the 5 pentatonic patterns memorized and practiced up to 100b/m on
our metronome, let's now connect them across the neck of the guitar
Let's connect the patterns in the key of A. Notice that you will begin pattern #1 on
the 7th fret. This is the A note and is called the "root" note of the scale. There
are actually 3 root notes on this pattern. 7th fret E, 9th Fret D, and 7th fret e. All
of these notes are A notes. In future lessons, we'll discuss the importance of memor-
izing the locations of your root notes.

So, as you can see, you can play the various patterns around the neck, and be in a key
that you want. In the above, for example, the key of A. Can you figure out the key of
E?? Try it! I'll post the answer as Lesson 4.
Ok, here's the deal. Memorize these patterns in A. Put your metronome at a nice,
comfortable speed and practice these patterns across the neck of your guitar. Do it
until you have them memorized with no mistakes!!
Finally, record yourself playing an A chord at a comfortable speed and practice the
patterns to a chord!
See ya next lesson!!
