EFT Frequently Asked Questions
What is EFT?
EFT is a universal healing aid that is in use worldwide by those
in the healing professions. The method is based on traditional
Chinese medicine's energy system, the same system on which acupuncture
is based. It rebalances the energy systems. EFT allows individuals
to let go of such difficult feelings as fears, anxiety, depression,
guilt, jealousy, and anger. It is also effective with core beliefs.
It was developed by Gary Craig as an outgrowth of Thought Field
Therapyª which was developed by Dr. Roger Callahan, Ph.D.
How is it practiced?
EFT is a psychological version of acupuncture, except that we
don't use needles. Instead the body's energy system is balanced
by tapping with our fingertips on selected points along the
energy meridians. Do treatment effects last? When the problem
feelings are no longer able to be accessed in the office, then
the effectiveness of the treatment needs to be tested in the
real world. Sometimes the client reports no more fear, sometimes
a greatly reduced fear, and (very rarely) the same level of
fear as before treatment. The treatment is never considered
successful until the individual reports lasting effects in the
real life situations.
How effective is EFT?
The effectiveness of EFT depends on the nature of the problem
treated and the number of problems with which the person struggles.
The highest rate of effectiveness seems to be with a single,
uncomplicated phobia, such as fear of heights, snakes, or
claustrophobia.
It appears to be about 85% effective in just one or a few sessions.
Other problems can also be very rapidly changed as well. As
you might expect, some problems are more complicated to diagnose
and treat. Individuals with a broad number of issues tend to
require more complicated treatments.
Does EFT resolve all problems?
No. EFT is often highly effective in removing blocks in the
system. It removes blockages. It does not add anything - knowledge,
insight skills, emotional growth or anything else. However,
the impact of removing blockages often results in startling
changes in the person's ability to think clearly, act effectively,
and feel differently so that it often looks as though the person's
abilities, knowledge, and behavior have been transformed in
certain ways or in certain areas.
Is EFT safe to use?
Yes. Unlike many other methods of treatment, EFT rarely has
any unwanted side effects such as causing a temporary increase
in emotional pain. Occasionally some individuals report uncomfortable
sensations while doing the tapping and I will work in other
ways with that individual. Unlike most treatments, it does not
require toleration of the unwanted emotion for long periods
of time. Only rarely is there any discomfort associated with
the treatment itself, other than to bring up a thought and rate
your feelings of it. Generally, the tapping begins to alleviate the
feelings (or have no effect). The one way in which painful feelings can
seem to increase through treatment is when the first layer
of feelings is released and layers of feelings underneath are
uncovered and emerge. EFT does not cause the loss of any memory,
and will never remove anything you need. For example, EFT treatment
will never remove a necessary fear. It only removes unrealistic
and excessive fears which are interfering with the quality of
life. EFT often offers rapid enduring relief for:
Abuse, Anxiety, Addictions, Allergies, Anger,
Compulsions, Depression, Fear, Grief, Guilt, Jealousy, Loss,
Memory Issues, Weight, Pain, Panic Attacks, Public Speaking,
TTSD, Post Traumatic Stress, Prosperity, Stage Fright, Stress,
Self Image, Shyness, Traumatic Memories.
