New! 4/19/03

Well the block and the heads are all machined. The crank, pistons, and timing gears are all on. I painted the block and heads. I'm having a shop install the engine back in the hearse and have them start it up.

I've finally gotten around to pulling the motor out and tearing it down. I'm sorry there's no pictures of the teardown, but I'm lacking a digital camera. I've taken the heads to the machine shop to get cleaned up and to get a valve job. That will cost $150. The block is ready to be sent out to the machine shop, but the only thing that's holding me up is transportation. In the mean time, I've cleaned and painted the water pump, fuel pump, valve covers, and oil pan GM Corporate Blue. The distributor needs some paint, but I have installed it's new electronic ignition; so NO MORE messing with the POINTS! The intake valves were pretty dirty with some serious chunks stuck to them. The exhaust valves weren't that bad, but a circular wire brush attachment for my drill made short work of 30 years of exhaust crap. The right hand exhaust manifold was ok, but the left one was broken in 2 pieces. Looks like some bolt on headers are on my shopping list. So after I get the Block reconditioned, I still need to buy a rocker arm assembly[$278] (which includes new longer pushrods), and the bolt-on headers ($375) which comes to a total of $668 with free shipping fromMaximum Torque Specialties. Most of these parts are discontinued so if you're not comfortable buying used parts, go to MTS' website.
