Continuation of the scene where Jen breaks down to Pacey and he promises to take care of her little girl for her. There is a knock at the door and Pacey and Jen break apart. JACK: Hey swan song, i've got a surprise guest for you . And in walks in ANDIE MCPHEE, looking absolutely stunning and radiant all grown up. Pacey's eyes flutter as both he and Jen light up. ANDIE: Hey... JEN: Oh my God, oh my God! Andie rushes to Jen and hugs her. Pacey beams, and smiles at Jack as he watched the scene. LATER in the hospital cafeteria: Andie and Pacey sit at a table drinking coffee. PACEY: She's been growing weaker. I'll be talking to her and she'll just drift away sometimes. For a few minutes, sometimes hours. ANDIE: The arrythmia is causing an insufficient blood flow. Her system is shutting down. PACEY: So it's just a waiting game now. ANDIE: I spoke to her doctor. She hasn't been responding to any of the beta-blocking agents or ACE inhibitors. PACEY: I don't really know what any of that means, but it doesn't sound good. ANDIE: No it's not. She looks down tearfully and Pacey takes her hand comfortingly. She smiles in appreciation. PACEY: In lighter news it looks like the world has a wonderful new doctor on their hands. How're things going for you? ANDIE: Well, resident life. Long hours, I never sleep, constant hamster at the wheel. PACEY: Well, you look none the worse for wear, you look great actually. ANDIE: (smiling) Cos i love it. God, I do. Every bit of it. And you look great too Pacey. Pacey chuckles pointing to his black eye. ANDIE: (laughing) Well, yeah... PACEY: Comparatively, I guess i'm doing alright. ANDIE: Good, glad to hear it. I think about you Pacey Witter, wonder what you're doing, if you're happy. PACEY: You could always pick up the phone and call. ANDIE: I do. Jack. He gives me the play by play. PACEY: (looking up and rolling his eyes) Oh, I can only imagine. Andie laughs. PACEY: But seriously, with you in Boston, it's too close for us not to keep in touch. (Andie nods) There's so much history here. (He pauses and then in a serious tone) You were always the first Andie. ANDIE: (jokingly) Oh, yeah, funny i don't remember it that way. PACEY: No you were. You were the first who tested me, who challenged me, and i'll tell you the truth, even to this day I don't think i've got it quite right yet. ANDIE: Pacey, it's not about getting it right. It's (she pauses and thinks) about knowing when it's wrong and doing something about it. Pacey looks at her with awe and admiration. PACEY: And there you go again, telling me exactly what i need to hear, when i need to hear it. You always have. How do you do that? It's a gift. I don't know if I ever properly thanked you for that, so thank you. ANDIE: No, no, no. It's always worked both ways Pacey. (she smiles warmly at him) But you're welcome. They share a lingering smile. A special moment has been shared. PACEY: How long are you staying? ANDIE: As long as i need to. A moment. One of history. Very comfortable, beautiful, touching and sweet. There's nothing awkward about it. |
