Feelings
Risa Jordan

We each have feelings, me and you,
Sometimes we're happy and sometimes we're blue.

When something scares us, we feel afraid,
We all feel proud of something we've made.

When we want to know more, we feel curious.
When we slip on the floor, we feel furious.

We sometimes feel lonely when there's nothing to do.
We sometimes feel hunger when there's nothing to chew.

We all feel excited when we make a new friend,
I'm feeling sorry 'cause my poem must end.

My Feelings
Meish Goldish

There are things I have that I can't see,
Things that change inside of me.
What, oh what, can those things be?
My feelings!

When a freind calls up and says, "Let's play,"
When I work in school and get and "A,"
When my favorite dinner's on its way,
I'm happy!

When I can't go out because of rain,
When my tummy hurts and I'm in pain,
When my favorite toy goes down the drain,
I'm sad!

When thunder booms, and the lights go out,
When suddenly I hear a shout,
When an ugly bug will crawl about,
I'm afraid!

At times I'm happy, at times I'm sad,
At times I'm scared, at times I'm glad,
I know I'm me, because I've had
My feelings!

Sometimes
Jack Prelutsky

Sometimes I simply have to cry,
I don't know why,
I don't know why.
There's really nothing very wrong.
I probably should sing a song
or run around and make some noise
or sit and tinker with my toys
or pop a couple of balloons
or play a game or watch cartoons,
but I'm feeling sad,
though I don't know why,
and all I want to do is cry.

Apology
Judith Viorst

It's hard to say "I'm sorry,"
Although I'm feeling sorry.
The "s" always sticks in my throat.
And "I made a big mistake"
Would produce a bellyache
That might last till I was old enough to vote.

"Please forgive me" sounds real good.
And I'd say it if I could,
But between the "forgive" and the "please"
I would have to go to bed
With a pounding in my head
And a very shaky feeling in my knees.

"I was wrong" seems oh so right.
But it gives me such a fright
That my "Was" always turns into "ain't."
So I hope you'll take this rhyme
As my way of saying "I'm
Really sorry." Now excuse me while I faint.

The Blues
Langston Hughes

When the shoe strings break
On both your shoes
And you're in a hurry -
That's the blues.

When you go to buy a cnady bar
And you've lost he dime you had -
Slipped through a hole in your pocket somewhere -
That's the blues, too, and bad!

Someone's Face
John Ciardi

Someone's face was all frowned shut,
All squeezed full of grims and crinkles,
Pouts and scowls and gloomers, but
I could see behind the wrinkles -

Even with her face a-twist,
I saw Someone peeking through.
And when Someone's nose was kissed,
Guess who came out giggling? - YOU!

Since Hannah Moved Away
Judith Viorst

The tires on my bike are flat.
The sky is grouchy gray.
At least it sure feels like that
Since Hanna moved away.

Chocolate ice cream tastes like prunes.
December's come to stay.
They've taken back the Mays and Junes
Since Hanna moved away.

Flowers smell like halibut.
Velvet feels like hay.
Every handsome dog's a mutt
Since Hanna moved away.
Nothing's fun to laugh about.
Nothing's fun to play.
They call me, but I won't come out
Since Hanna moved away.

Crying
C. J. Heck

I cry when I am hurting
And sometimes when I'm sad.
I cry when I get punished
'Cause I've done something bad.

I cry when I am angry
(That means when I'm mad)
But grownups sure are funny ...
Mommy cries when she is glad.

Not the Best Feeling
Jeff Moss

If someone socks you in the eye
And they don't even tell you why,
And then you try to climb a tree
But you fall down and hurt your knee,
And then your brother spills the glue
But your father yells at you,
You will not be feeling glad,
But you will be feeling . . .

. . . in the mood for door-slamming
and pillow-bashing
and not seeing anybody anymore,
which is the same as saying . . .

You'll be feeling . . . MAD!

Teasing
Jose Jimenez, 5th grade

Teasing is being laughed at.
It feels like a needle.

Teasing is being told your clothes are ugly.
It looks like tears in your eyes.

Teasing is being told your mom is ugly.
It sounds like a scream from a hurt puppy.

Teasing is being laughed at for locking yourself in a room.
It smells like dead fish.

Teasing is being told you're stupid.
It tastes like chewing rocks.
