Wind Poems

My Playmate
Mabel Niedermeyer

I have an outdoor playmate
Who's as jolly as can be;
Sometimes I'm sure he's hiding
Up in our apple tree,
For the green leaves nod and rustle
And seem to wave at me.

In springtime when we're playing,
He is so very spry;
He catches up my paper kite
And carries it up high
Above the tops of houses
With their chimneys in the sky.

He often blows and whistles
For me to come outside,
Then when I'm on my scooter
He pushes while I ride -
And yet I've never seen him
Though I've tried and tried and tried.

Wind Song
Mimi Drodsky

I sit by the window
and watch the breeze
tingle the leaves
on all the trees.

I sit by the window
and hear the wind sing,
carrying spring,
making air ring.

Wind! Wind! Blow me a song.
Toss me a ship from the sea.
Fling me a willow tree tall and strong.
Whirl the world closer to me.

I See The Wind...

I see the wind when the leaves dance by,
I see the wind when the clothes wave "Hi!"
I see the wind when the trees bend low,
I see the wind when the flags all blow.

I see the wind when the kites fly high,
I see the wind when the clouds float by.
I see the wind when the it blows my hair,
I see the wind most everywhere.

Windy Word
Jean Conder Soule

I am the Wind
And you'd better watch out!
I can run, I can fly;
I can whistle and shout.

I can tap on your window
And howl at your door,
Tug on your coat tails,
Bellow and roar.

But in March I'm the loudest;
Look out for my might!
For when you're not looking
I'll steal your new kite.

The March Wind
anonymous

I come to work as well as play;
I'll tell you what I do;
I whistle all the live-long day,
"Woo-oo-oo-oo! Woo-oo!"

I toss the branches up and down
And shake them to and fro,
I whirl the leaves in flocks of brown,
And send them high and low.

I strew the twigs uopn the ground,
The frozen earth I sweep;
I blow the children round and round
And wake the flowers from sleep.

Wind
Aileen Fisher

The wind has lots of noises:
it sniffs,
it puffs,
it whines,
it rumbles like and ocean
through junipers and pines,
it whispers in the windows,
it howls,
it sings,
it hums -
it tells you VERY PLAINLY
every time it comes.

The Wind...

The wind came out to play one day.
He swept the clouds out of his way.
He blew the leaves and away they flew.
The trees bent low and their branches did too!
The wind blew the great big ships at sea.
The wind blew the kite away from me.

March Wind

March wind is a jolly fellow;
He likes to joke and play.
He turns umbrellas inside out
And blows men's hats away.
He calls the pussy willows
And whispers in each ear,
"Wake up you lazy little seeds,
Don't you know that spring is here.

March Wind

The wind is pushing
Against the trees,
He'll take off your hat
Without asking you "please",
He rattles the windows
And puffs at a cloud,
Then scoots down the chimney
And laughs aloud.
