The Legend of Mt. Konocti

Long, long ago there lived two giants. One named Kah-Bel lived on Bartlett Mountain, the other named Konocti lived with his beautiful daughter, Lupiyoma, on the mountain bearing his name. Kah-Bel, seeking to marry Lupiyoma, fought with her father and both died. Stricken with grief, Lupiyoma's tears shed over the body of her sweetheart, Kah-Bel, became little Borax Lake. Her fallen father became the mountain now known as Mt. Konocti. His daughter's tears shed over him, caused the bubbling water in the springs of what we now know as Soda Bay.
