We love biking around Lake Murray in San Diego, CA. Especially on our tandem, pulling the youngest kids in a trailer. The summer of 1995 Jeff & Ruth rode from San Francisco to San Diego on their tandem. It took 11 fun days.
The bike is partially disassembled, carefully packed, and boxed the night before. The box barely fit in the minivan, and made driving difficult.
After arriving in San Francisco with our disposable luggage we wait for our bike. Did it survive?
Yes, it made it! Now to put it back together.
We're finally assembled, packed, and ready to leave the baggage claim area and hit the highway.
On the way to Half-Moon Bay. 10 miles down, 650 to go!
We bought some groceries in town and ate here at our campsite at Half-Moon Bay campground. The campgrounds were all full our whole trip, but there was always plenty of room at the hiker-biker sites.
Here is a view of the Pacific Coast Highway the 3rd day into
our trip. What a beautiful road to ride!
The 5th day we found this sign. Note the population: 18.
The hiker-biker site at Oceano Campground (near Pismo Beach) where we camped the 6th day.
Santa Barbara is beautiful, especially the long, beach bike path. We took this picture on the 7th day of riding.
The Refugio Campground is right on the beach. Here we are packed and ready to leave our tent site on the 8th day.
The whole ride from San Francisco to San Diego took 11 days and we had a terrific time. Someday we hope to ride across the USA like that...

When you're riding a tandem bike you're never lonely.
