"The Joliet Police Department in 1889 consisted of the men pictured here together with the two young mascots. Officers patroled the wards on foot and used telegraph call boxes on their beats to summon the station for assistance if an emergency arose.
Their helmets and coats are especially characteristic of that era. Joliet's "finest" in 1889 included: 1. Matt Connor 2. Nick Brooker 3. Mr. Snyder 4. Pontus Heintz 5. Adam Birkey 6. John Bagnell 7. Gabe Harper 8. James Walsh 9. Joseph Murray 10. Thomas Dillon 11. Homer Bradley 12. Matt Grine 13. Nick Lasch 14. Charles Fallinski 15. Luther Gorsich 16. Jack Frederick 17. Chief Charles F. Blood 18. Tom Haughton. The mascots were Willie Haughton and Chief Blood's son.
