Keeper of the Stars

This website is dedicated to our friend and colleague Wendy Burns to show our love and support to a woman whose strength and courage astounds us day by day. Wendy is currently Juvenile Services Coordinator of Catholic Charities Maine in Aroostook County in Northern Maine and has been involved in this organization for years. She and her staff work religiously to find temporary foster homes for children who have gotten in trouble with the law as a means to keeping them out of jail - a program known as the Juvenile Jail Diversion Program. These graphics portraying the angel carrying the child was perfect for this page, for Wendy and her staff "carry children" each and every day.

Approximately two years ago, Wendy was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy and a series of other operations to rid her of this terrible disease. We prayed for remission, but for reasons only known to a higher power, our prayers have yet gone unanswered and her cancer has now metastasized. She has not been given much hope for survival and has been told if the cancer doesn't kill her first, the treatments she needs to undergo probably will. She has had her initial assault of chemotherapy and is currently getting daily shots in her home by a nurse through the Visiting Nurses Association. She is one very sick lady right now, and she knows the worst is yet to come . . . Boston. She will be treated at the Dana Farver Clinic beginning the new year for six weeks. She is a divorced mother of three daughters ~ Amy, age 17; Rachel, age 15; and Courtney, age 12. She also has a foster daughter, Tasha, who is 15. You can imagine what these girls are going through at the thought of losing their mother. They will be well taken care of, however, while their mother is away in Boston by Dick and Jane Mitchell of Houlton, also involved in the Juvenile Jail Diversion Program. Dick and Jane have unselfishly offered to move into Wendy's house (one hour north of their home) and take care of everything while she is gone. As you can see, this website is full of angels!

This website will keep you informed of Wendy's condition and progress. Please return often and show your support by e-mailing her or signing her guestbook.

Thank you.

This Guardian Angel has been sent
to watch over Wendy and this website.
Wendy's Guardian Angel
Her name is Angelique

Angels are the guardians of hope and wonder,
the keepers of magic and dreams.
Angels watch over you wherever you go,
keeping each day perfect
and promising a bright new tomorrow.
Wherever there is love, an angel is flying by.
Your guardian angel knows you inside and out
and loves you just the way you are.
Angels keep it simple and always travel light.
Remember to leave space in your relationships
so the angels have room to play.
Your guardian angel helps you find a place
when you feel there is no place to go.
Whenever you feel lonely, a special angel drops in for tea.
Angels are with you every step of the way
and help you soar with amazing grace.
After all, we are angels in training;
all we have to do is spread our wings and fly.
