Last Will and Testament

(Written in Margin) Nuncepation Will of Dutton Layne Dec.

     In the name of God Amen, I Dutton Layne of Henry County and state of Virginia being sick & weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for the same Calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all mens lives to see so make and ordain this my last will and testament. In the first place all that I have heretofore given to my sons Samuel Layne & Dutton Layne, also to my daughter Elizabeth Norman – Consisting of a house and lands with some of the property to each of them. I do hereby confirm to them and their heirs forever and secondly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Layne one negro girl named Hannah one feather bed and furniture & her heirs forever and hereby I give and bequeath unto the living children of my daughter Rhoda Bean one hundred pounds in property out of my Estate also a claim of debt for twenty three pounds which I have against the Estate of Robert Bean & to be equally divided among them. I give it to them and their heirs forever and fourthly all the remainder of my Estate both real and personal after the payment of my Just debts I have with my beloved wife Elizabeth Layne for her use during her natural life and after her death to be equally divided among my children this 4th day of October one thousand Eight Hundred and One.
