George Strait was born in Poteet, Texas on May 18, 1952. He has brown hair and green eyes and stands 5 feet 10 inches, weighing roughly 160 lbs. His wife's name is Norma with a son George Jr., nicknamed Bubba.


He plays both the guitar and the piano and his hobbies are steer roping, hunting,fishing, golf, skiing. He is a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and affiliated with CMA, ASCAP, NARAS, AFTRA, ACM.

Soon after George was born, his family moved to Pearsall, TX. His father raised him and his brother where he worked a cattle ranch. He began singing rock in high school and in 1970 he graduated from high school and married his wife Norma, his high school sweetheart.


In 1971 George joined the army as a payroll clerk and was stationed in Hawaii. While in the army he began singing with an army band. He was later discharged in 1975 and then enrolled in Southwest Texas State University where he was a member of the SWT Rodeo Association. While in college, he joined a band called Stoney Ridge, many members of which are currently in the Ace in the Hole band. He graduated on December 22, 1979 with a BS degree in Agriculture Education from Southwest Texas State University. George wanted to be a Agriculture Teacher and FFA advisor.


He went on to record his first singles in 1971, and later in 1976 recorded a six song demo tape which was repeatedly turned down by a number of labels.


It wasn't until 1981, that he signed with MCA records. He released his first hit single "Unwound" on April 23 which was on the Strait Country album. All George had hoped for was a "hit record." This was the year George first got his long awaited recognition for his music. He was awarded Billboard's New Male Artist of the Year and also Record World New Male Artist of the Year. It wasn't long after he released his second album Strait From The Heart including his single "Fool Hearted Memory" which was the first to hit #1 on the country charts on August 28, 1982. The album "Right or Wrong" was released less than a year later in 1983, and he was awarded Billboard Male Singles Artist of the Year.


The Academy of Country Music went on to award George 1984 Male Vocalist of the Year. In the same year he was awarded Billboard Male Vocalist of the Year and had released his fourth album "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind."


In 1985 the Album "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind" received both the Country Music Association and the ACM Album of the Year. Also in 1985, his first compilation of hits was put on the "Greatest Hits" album. This was a busy year as MCA released the album "Something Special."


In 1986, the same year he released both albums "#7" and "Merry Christmas Strait To You", tragedy struck George and his family. A car accident claimed the life of his 13 year old daughter Jenifer, which really struck George hard. George was said to be at a point in his life where he felt nothing worse could happen and he kept to himself. He went on a long and harsh tour. It was over a year before he decided to give any interviews. Even so, he was awarded Music City News Male Vocalist of the Year, CMA Male Vocalist of the year, Billboard Overall Top Artist, and Billboard Top Male Artist.


1987 rolled around and the album "Ocean Front Property" was released. It was in this year he received the Billboard #1 Top Country Artist of the year award. In the same year his second compilation of hits was created and the album "Greatest Hits II" was developed.


He was awarded ACM Entertainer of the Year in 1988 and released the album "If You Ain't Livin' You Ain't Lovin'".


In 1989 MCA records released the album Beyond The Blue Neon, the same year he received the CMA Entertainer of the year , ACM Entertainer of the year, and the Presidential American Success Award from President Bush.


His song "Love Without End, Amen," off of his "Livin' It Up" album, in 1990, became a hit and stayed at the top of the charts for five weeks. He was awarded the Entertainer of the Year by the CMA for the second year in a row. It was in this year that George was named as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People Magazine.


Moving into the first week of 1991, his smash hit "I've Come To Expect It From You" was in its fifth week at #1 on the charts. By this time George had accomplished eight #1 singles, seven major industry awards, three gold albums and two platinum albums. His "George Strait Live" video had nearly gone double platinum.


It has been rumored that "Baby Blue" was dedicated to Jenifer. His son George Jr. (Bubba) is now about 15. George Jr. is the young boy's voice you hear in the song Heartland, which he recorded with his father for the movie Pure Country.


Over the years George has reached astounding heights producing 19 albums over a 15 year period, with every one going either gold or platinum. From those 19 albums he has had 32 #1 hits with every single released hitting the charts.


But not only known as a singer, George starred in the smash hit Pure Country which for four weeks was in the top ten at the box office in October of 1992.


Recently George was nominated for CMA's Male Vocalist of the Year for his album "Lead On." This was the 11th year in a row that he was nominated for this award.
