Minnie Lowe Chance
Sunrise: February 3, 1920 ~ Sunset: August 4, 2004

Minnie Lowe Chance, a resident of Martin County, North Carolina, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, following a brief illness.  She was born on February 3, 1920 in Cataula, Georgia to the late Lonnie and Lula Lowe.  She was one of twelve children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Her early years were spent in Columbus, Georgia, and she later moved with her family to Bethel, North Carolina.  On November 2, 1941, she married the late James Arthur Chance.  Together, they established a loving home and were blessed with five children, James Edward, Patricia, Frederick, Joyce, and Sallie.

Minnie was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending special time with all of her family so much that she and her husband hosted the first of many Lowe Family Reunions.  During these times, her relatives and friends always looked forward to her famous sweet potato pies and homemade cakes.

Minnie was a dedicated lifetime member of Medley Chapel C.M.E. Church.  She lovingly supported the work of the ministry by serving as a member of the Senior Choir, Stewardess Board, Trustee Board, and Class Leader I.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, James E. (Rose) Chance of Greensboro, NC, and Frederick L. (Martha) Chance of Bethel, NC; three daughters, Patricia C. (Frank) Neal of Bethel, NC, Joyce C. (Robert) Jones of Greenville, NC, and Sallie C. (Howard) Jones of the home; one foster son, Albert Sherman of Richmond, VA; nine grandchildren, Michael (Cynceré), Tony (Jackie), Frankie, Fran, Edrick, Chris (Kristi), Chance, Zachary, and Krystal; five great-grandchildren, Carmen, T.J., Amia, Syndee, and Mya; two sisters-in-law, Daisy C. Feggins of Robersonville, NC, and Bernice B. Chance of Danbury, CT; one brother-in-law, Don G. Chance of Robersonville, NC; a goddaughter, Clara Cherry of Bethel, NC; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Tribute to Grandma

What a wonderful woman, what a beautiful life
No one understands why, but God knows what’s right
She is no longer with us in flesh and blood
But now she will always be shining down on us from above
So don’t grieve for her, for now she’s free
She is following the path God has laid, you see
We all know her parting has left a void
But we must fill it with remembered joys
She took His hand when she heard Him call
She turned her back and left us all
Grandma could not stay another day
to work, to smile, to love, to play
Things left unfinished must stay that way
for she found peace at the close of day
All we can do is lift up our hearts and peace to thee
God wanted her now
He set her free!
