Welcome to my Hometown !

I have lived here in Erie for more than 15 years now and I think it is a very nice place to make a home.I know my town is known nationwide for it's terrible winters, but we adapt to them, and believe me , the winters really aren't as bad as you think. Besides, the other seasons make up  for the occasional harshness of the winters, and there is plenty to do in the snow anyway. Take a peek at the weather for today and you'll see that we are far from the arctic!

Erie was incorporated as a city in 1851, but it's history goes back to the founding of our country. One of the more famous footnotes in history contributed by Erie is the fact that it was here that Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry built the fleet of ships which were used in the battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. One of those ships, the brig Niagara, has been restored and still sails the Great Lakes.

Long a center for transportation, Erie boasts the only port to the lakes in Pennsylvania. Although economic forces over the years have caused a decline in shipping, a large amount of freight still comes into Erie from all over the world, and many domestic products are shipped from Erie's port to points everywhere. You can find out more about the current state of our economy and our plans for the future by visiting our Chamber of Commerce.

So, what do you do for fun in Erie? Well, much of the recreational activity centers around Presque Isle, a large spit of land which juts out into Lake Erie. Presque Isle, which, when loosely translated from the French, means "almost an island" , is itself a state park and forms a natural harbor known as Presque Isle Bay. The bay is ideally suited for such activities as boating in the summer and fishing year round, although ice fishing in the winter is a rather chilling experience. The park has miles of soft sand beaches along the lake where you can swim, picnic, or take part in other activities, and a nature preserve takes up most of the park's interior. Much of this preserve is accessible to the public, although some areas require permits. No camping is allowed in the park, but if you're into that you can go here.

Colleges and Universities abound in the Erie area (these are just two), if you want to continue your education. We support the arts, and we even have our own basbeball team. These boys of summer play to cheering crowds in a brand new downtown stadium.
