An East Coast Oddysey

WEBMASTER’S NOTE: This trip was taken in August and was about to be posted in early September.  After what happened in New York, it didn’t seem right to post it at the time.  Many
people, myself included, didn’t want to think about travel after that.  Now, I feel that to shut down is not helping the country.  We should continue, albeit we can never feel the same, and
support our economy and our country.    The industry that’s been hit the hardest is the travel industry.  Estimates I’ve seen say up to 25% of those employed here may lose their jobs...if we
get back on the road, we can help those hit the second hardest after those families who lost loved ones on that day.  Our prayers are with them and our country at this most trying of times.

Now, on with the trip reports...

Two countries, eight states, one province, four flights, seven hotels, and 2,511 road miles.  It’s our East Coast Odyssey...this year’s vacation. Follow along for the highlights, the lowlights,
and a few sites along the way.

This was a doozy of a trip, so it will be broken into several parts and serialized on the site over the next few weeks.  Make sure to come back for the next part in the trip.

When reading these reports, keep in mind these constants for budgeting since there is not airfare or car rental information for each segment.  The airfare was $274 for an open jaw.  The
first leg was LAX to BUF.  The flight home was CHS to LAX.  That’s an astounding fare that’s less than half the round-trip fare to many of these cities.  We found it on AAA’s web site and
    flew on US Air.

One-way car rental from Buffalo, NY to Charleston, SC was $680 from Hertz for 17 days and was also found on the AAA web site.  We received a Ford Taurus with 6,000 miles on it.

We had come really good times, some slow days, and a couple of very frustrating encounters.  Now it’s time to get started.  Come on along for part one of our odyssey... Toronto .
