Anita's Life, Condensed

My life has been like one big soap opera...and not even a well-written one at that. No, this is one of those cheap, dime-store novel plots, overwrought with drama and ridiculous plot twists. Actually, I've summed my life up as "several decades of toe-curling dullness punctuated by intense bursts of chaos." If it weren't happening to me, I'd probably laugh at the whole thing. OK, so some days I do anyway, but only because if I don't laugh, I'll go nuts.

How I got here...as if you didn't know...

Mom already had my sister, Kim, and I'd tell you all about that, but it is complicated and would take up about 20 pages alone. Besides, that's my mother's story to tell, and I'm just here to tell mine. Anyway, once my parents married, my brother came along. I try not to hold that against them. Everyone is, after all, entitled to a mistake.

I was born with a severe case of bronchial asthma and had to be hospitalized several times for it. One night, when I was about 9 months old, I completely stopped breathing (again), and had to be rushed to the hospital (again). I died and was eventually revived. Actually, I died three times and each time I came a little closer to not coming back. The doctors told my parents I was a lost cause and not to expect me to live to see my first birthday. I always was a stubborn kid.
