A Tribute to Elvis Presley
I chose Elvis beacuse of my older sister Bonnie Lee, who is a true Elvis NUT. I guess I shouldn't say anything about it because we all contribute to her fettish by giving her gifts associated with Elvis for her birthday etc. She will be here in a few days and will get to see her idol on my site and hear a couple of his tunes. I am hoping this will be some incentive to get her to get a computer.
Hope you like The King and the 50's!

PRESLEY, Elvis (1935-77). One of the most successful entertainers ever, Elvis Presley dominated popular music in the United States from the release of his first big record, 'Heartbreak Hotel', in 1956. His records, 45 of which sold more than a million copies each, his 33 motion pictures, and his appearances on television and in live concerts made the young singer into a one-man industry who by the mid-1960s was the highest-paid performer in show business history. His death in 1977 in no way diminished his popularity with his fans. His records continued to sell, and his legend brought on a whole generation of imitators. (See also Music, Popular.) Elvis Aron Presley was born on Jan. 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Miss. In 1949 the family moved to Memphis, Tenn., where young Presley attended L.C. Humes High School, graduating in 1953. That summer he came to the attention of Sam Phillips, president of the Sun Record Company, when he went there to make a personal recording intended as a present for his mother. Presley made his first commercial recording for Sun the following year, and Colonel Tom Parker, who managed his career from that time, arranged for him to make a series of personal appearances. In 1955 RCA Victor bought his recording contract from Phillips, and by 1956 Presley was a best-selling recording artist and television star. His hip gyrations, which some viewers thought too suggestive, earned him the nickname Elvis the Pelvis. 'Love Me Tender', his first film, was released that same year. Drafted into the Army in 1958, Presley went through regular training and then served as a truck driver in West Germany until his discharge in 1960. Resuming his career under Parker's supervision, he worked up a touring act, based in Las Vegas, Nev., and attracted an ever-expanding public. He bought Graceland, his lavish Memphis mansion, using it as a retreat from the enthusiasm of his public. In 1967 he married Priscilla Beaulieu. The couple, who had a daughter the following year, were divorced in 1973. Unable to go anywhere without being mobbed by fans, Presley became increasingly reclusive. He gained weight and took various prescription drugs. He died of heart failure in Memphis on Aug. 16, 1977.

Graceland at Christmas Time

This is a photo of the world famous Sun Studio (Birthplace of Rock N Roll), in Memphis TN. Sun Studio is where Elvis Presley got his recording career started with songs such as "That's All Right" (mama). Sam Phillips, owner of Sun, recorded other rock and blues legends such as: BB King, Howlin Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and others.

Elvis is shown here posing on the set of one of his many movies, Love me Tender, his first movie. Elvis was the first star to ever be given two dressing rooms at MGM Studios. During the filming of ``Jailhouse Rock,'' MGM added crisp bacon, mashed potatoes, and dark brown gravy to their menu because they were some of the King's favorite meals.

The early years and the Army years.

The later years of the King

The King belts out an especially soulful version of "Amazing Grace" while relaxing at home in 1957.

Elvis Presley lived before as the powerful ruler of an ancient Greek kingdom -- and archaeologists have found a colossal 29-foot bust of The King to prove it! An extraordinary stone head was discovered near the ruins of Commagene, a 1st century trading center on the shores of the Aegean Sea. The carved rock marvel is the spitting image of The King, right down to his straight, perfect nose and full lips. Reincarnationists insist that this is no coincidence. It is instead proof-positive that Elvis lived before. They say records show that the ancient ruler Antiochus had the same musical talent and warmth as the rock 'n' roll star.

After voting by Elvis fans nationwide, the U.S. Post Office issued the stamp showing Elvis at the height of his career. The first country to honor Elvis on a postage stamp was the Caribbean island nation of Grenada.

Many people believe Elvis lives today. This is supposed to be a recent photo taken of him. I examined it in several of my phot tocuh up programs but I can't find anything amiss, I personally think it looks like the Bionic Man.

The following are a couple of additional pages I created. One has some Elvis trivia that is amusing and the most recent documented (?) sightings. The other is Elvis' Last Will and Testament, which I found to be quite interesting.
