Judy, I am researching my father's family (Gehrke's) and found some on your tree. I was wondering if you have any information that goes further back than what you have listed in the Gehrke part of your tree? I'm looking for family related to Christian Gherke Gehrke) from Germany. He was my gg-grandfather and was born 1841. He settled in the Sun Prairie area of Wisconsin. I haven't had much luck with the original spelling (Gherke) and am assuming that there were siblings left in Germany when he came to Amer ca. Any help would be appreciated. Hi, I really enjoyed your website as I am just getting into my family tree. It is a bit tough for me though as parents and grandparents on both sides of the family have passed away. My grandparents on my fathers side came here from Yugoslavia, and while I was able to make contact with someone from that area, I am no longer in contact due to the problems there. Growing up we were told we are Polish and Irish, later I found out the Polish was Croatian, and even later I found out the McMillans were from Sc tland. I will be checking out more of the links you have and would even appreciate any tips you might be able to pass along on the best sites to go to when you have little to start with. Great site, thenk you for the visit.

I'm also researching my family tree, wehn using a search engine I came across your web sight. The names I'm researching in my tree are: YARKIE/ YERKIE/ and then their are different spellings of that from Germany and that is up for debate still, it could be: GEHRKE/ GERKE/GERKIE/ So to see that Yarkie and Gehrke were both together on one page really interested me but I was unable to match any names together. I have a Gottlieb but he was married to a Caroline Ringle. I know that he was in the Pembroke area for a short time and th n moved to Wisconsin with at least one of their new born daughters: Amelia Bertha Yerkie born in Pembroke, Ontario in 1865. Seems we started out in Lancaster PA some time back, but most of my immediate family is in Greensboro NC, or thereabouts.
