Aromatherapy Page
Aromatherapy
is the use of scents to enhance, change, or simplify one's life. Scents
have long been used to evoke feelings, and to change moods.
Aromatherapy has been becoming more evident in this high-stress
era. Don't believe me? Look at the supermarket shelves. Glade, Renuzit
, Bristol-Meyers ....and a mirade others have been cashing in on the scent
market for years. Potpourri and sachets have been displayed predominately
in the first aisles (supposedly the most marketable place) of stores everywhere.
Burger King and others are venting the smells of their food cooking towards
the front of the building to trigger hunger in the people walking by.
There is a wealth of information on the Net about Aromatherapy. If you
are interested in exploring aromatherapy, I would urge you to read about
it, and perhaps try some pre-mixed lotions for yourself. These can be found
in health-food stores, the Bath and Body Works ( and similar stores), and
even at your favorite discount department store. Or you could try mixing
a scent for your self. I have recently been mixing my own oils and lotions,
finding the scents that work for my family. The first scent I tried was
a stress relieving cream mixed with eucalyptus and spearmint. It was refreshing,
cool, and evoked memories of when I was a child being cared for my mother.
How many of you remember being rubbed on the chest with Vicks Vaporub?
The mixture I am working with now is lavender, rosemary
and lemon. This produces a sweet, powdery, herb scent with light citrus
high notes. My children swear a little rubbed on their temples before bed
keeps nightmares away. I will be putting more recipes on here later.
