Here's the happy ending story of Bailey (formerly Lucy):
After growing up with dogs, my husband and I knew we would eventually be dog owners. We had been married for 3 or 4 months when I began talking about getting a dog and started researching shelters on the internet. I soon found TLC's website and looked at the available dogs every week for a few months. Even though we weren't quite yet ready for a dog of our own, I liked to see the lists of new dogs from week to week. We first went to TLC on a snowy Saturday in Jan '05 to see a dog, but we were told we could not take him home because he was being treated for heartworm. He would be able to leave TLC the following weekend. I made sure to express my interest in this dog and was in touch with TLC throughout the week about his status. When we arrived at TLC the following Saturday (1/29/05) we were dismayed to find out the dog had already been adopted--wonderful for the dog, but we were sad we did not have him.
Then, we noticed another small dog named Lucy who I had noticed on the website as well. Lucy jumped up onto the cage and waged her tail as we approached her. I was very drawn to her
immediately. We asked if we could meet her, and we took her outside to get acquainted. I like to say it was love at first sight. It became clear that this dog had to be ours!
We adopted her that day and have been very happy ever since. She did not respond to Lucy, so we ended up changing her name to Bailey. Bailey is a beagle/terrier/chow?/??? mutt who came from Southern Illinois. We are convinced she lived outside before coming to TLC because she was fascinated by so many things in our home--especially mirrors, televisions, and milk bones! She is a very cute dog with a unique black-spotted tongue and a big appetite. She loves to lounge around staring out windows, take car rides, chew bones, go running with us, and cuddle. Bailey has enriched our lives and brings us happiness everyday. We so thankful for TLC and all of the happy endings they help create.
