Here's the happy ending story of Hypo and his new friend Kona:

Around the end of March I visited the shelter to look for a companion for my poor old depressed 18 year old cat "Hypo" (short for Hypothesis). He had just lost his lifelong buddy "Dorian". She passed away from old age basically.
I spent quite a bit of time visiting with each kitty that was there, at the time, for adoption. I needed to shop for, not just myself, but also keep in mind who would be good for Hypo. I couldn't seem to find one that fit the bill. Just as I was walking out of the room, something stopped me. I glanced down to a bottom cage down in the corner. "Is there something in there?" I went closer and knelt down to look. There.....way back in the dark corner was this little blob of black fur. I opened the cage door. She was very frightened, so I just sat there for a minute with the door open. Then I reached in and pulled her out. She still seemed scared, but willing for me to hold her. I took her out of the room into the reception room so she couldn't see any other cats. She immediately calmed down and seemed to appreciate my affections!
ZAP..... there went my heart. I'll take her!
I took her straight to the vet to leave her there for all her tests and shots. The vet needed a name, so I quickly thought of "Kona". She turned out not to be totally black afterall. When in sunlight, her short black fur takes on beautifull undertones of a rusty brownish color. Reminded me of Kona coffee.
Hypo is no longer bummin'. He's getting old and won't be around a whole lot longer himself, but for the time he's here he sure is being entertained! Kona is a very comical kitty. And I can tell...very happy that I stopped to take a look in that bottom corner cage. :)
Thank you,
