Here's the happy ending story of Lucas:

I had lost my Shepard/Lab mix, Coty, after 9 1/2 years. I couldn't bear that loss anymore, even though I had two other dogs. After two weeks of being without him, I adoped a puppy from a local welfare league. That puppy was diagnosed with a terminal disease and after having him for two weeks, he had to be put to sleep. You can imagine my sadness. I was going back and forth with getting another dog but not sure if my heart could take it. For weeks I would check the TLC website, just looking. One day a picture came up on the site and my heart fluttered in my chest when I saw it and I was almost thrown back in my chair. It was a 5 month old stray Shepard mix. I had to go see him. I went to the TLC the next day with my mom. When I got there they had just opened and I walked back to the kennel area and didn't see him. I thought he was gone. I turned around to leave and there he was, coming in from outside. Again my heart fluttered in my chest and tears came to my eyes. I can't describe the flood of emotions that I got when I saw this dog. We took him out to visit with him. He was so scared with all the barking and action from all the people. I decided to bring my other two dogs back to see him, to make sure they would get along. He wasn't interested in them, all he wanted was to go back in his cage where he felt safe. I wasn't going to adopt him fearing that he would be more trouble than I could handle. Against the thoughts in my head, and going with the feeling in my heart...I did adopt him. I named him Lucas, after Officer Lucas on Animal Planet's "Animal Precinct." I have had him for about a year and a half now. He is wonderful and loving with a terrific personality. He's one of the smartest dogs I have ever had and I have trained him to do many tricks. He's a very happy dog who gets along with my dogs, my family, and the neighborhood kids love him, too. He has a home filled with love, but most of all he has filled a void in my heart I though could never be filled. I still miss my Coty and my pup that had such a short life but the rewards I get and the unconditional love from this dog and my others is indescribable. Thank you, TLC, for bringing us together.
