Here's the happy ending story of Shiloh (formerly Blondie):

My family and I went to TLC January 2, 2009, to check out a dog we saw on the website and thought that we wanted. When we got there the dog was sweet, but he just didn't "speak" to me. I'm sure all you dog lovers know what I mean. All of the dogs there were jumping up and down and barking, "pick me, pick me"!!! Well there was this one little thing who was not uttering a sound. Her name was Blondie and she was just backed up in the corner. We wanted to meet her and the attendant had to literally drag her out of the cage. She was obviously under nourished, as you could see every rib on her. She couldn't stop shaking and her tail never came out from under her. I just knew that I had to have this dog. My husband thought I was crazy! Well, here we are six weeks later, Blondie, whose name we changed to Shiloh (because she is so shy!), is a loving part of our family. She isn't totally out of her shell yet, but she is getting there. She still gets frighten pretty easily by people, noises, leaves! (ha!), etc. She still doesn't know what a ball is for and doesn't seem to know how to play with people or other dogs. After about a week we got her to start eating and she has put on about five pounds. She still doesn't speak much. In the six weeks we have had her, we have only heard her let out one bark on three different occasions. I've never known a practically mute dog before, its interesting, but I'm thinking she won't be much of a watchdog for us. The two of us have bonded quite well. She is a very good companion and follows me from room to room and always wants to sit near me. She is very intelligent and has learned your basic dog "tricks": sit, down, sit pretty, give me your paw, your other paw. These things, however, she will only do if a tasty morsel is in my hand. I can ask her to sit down while we are outside all day long and she won't sit for me if I have no treat to give. We're working on that. TLC couldn't tell me much about her except that she came from a different shelter in Illinois and was probably a stray. Shiloh is definitely someone's loss and our gain. We are all madly in love with her, and wouldn't give her back for anything. Even my daughter's cat Shadow likes her. Shiloh, however, is afraid of him, ha! Thank you TLC for doing what you do for these poor discarded animals. Keep up the good work. We just may be in someday for a companion for Shiloh!
