Something to Smile About
This fella has had a rather rough life, with not much to smile about. He originally came from a home where he was not being cared for. The iguana had gotten very thin from not being fed regularly... the party also owned some pet rats that were also not being fed. Rats being smart creatures decided they had enough fasting and somehow got into the iguana's cage and decided his tail would make a nice meal!
After hearing of the poor iguana's plight a family asked if they might have him, and the owner seemed only too happy to oblige. The new owners did everything in their power to make the iguana happy. Not only did they build him a beautiful inside cage, they also constructed an outside pen for him to enable him to enjoy the outside weather. End of tale? Well, not exactly.
Being able to see the great outdoors got his curiosity up and he decided it was time to explore. So he left his safe confines to see the world around him. His new owners searched and searched, to no avail, the iguana could not be found. A month passed and they all but gave up hope, that is until they called the shelter. He had been found in someone's garage and then brought to the shelter. The iguana and his new family were happily reunited. So you can see he does have a good reason to be smiling... hmmmmm keep this smiling up and he may have a job on TV commercials replacing those popular chameleons we have seen!

Suds Galore ends up raising $1300.00!
On Sunday August 22nd the Animal Care Clinic in Lockport temporarily turned into a car wash! And what a car wash it was! Priced at $5.00 per wash, it kept the volunteers hopping, as satisfied customers went back home to bring in another car or tell a neighbor about the deal.
We would like to thank all the volunteers involved: Jim, Diane, Cindy, Sharon and Jeff Endebak, Jennifer and Ed Frayne, Dr. Kate Ball, and Katie Finnegan who worked like "dogs". We also would like to thank all those who donated a little extra to the "kitty" to help the T.L.C. critters.
We also want to say a special thanks to Dr. O'Brien for allowing the use of his facility for the wash and for his generous matching gift bringing the grand total to $1300.00.
And most of all we would like to thank Cindy and Sharon Endebak for coming up with the idea, planning it out, and seeing it through to a very successful end.

Little Bits Can Mean Alot
Ever feel like the little bit you do or contribute doesn't mean much, think again! It does make a difference. Whether you have been saving proofs, using your national Affinity Credit Card, buying books through the shelter's website, or collecting aluminum can, all this has brought additional revenues to the shelter without costing you a cent. Take a gander at these figures:
Amazon.com book sales came to $33.49
National Affinity Card use has netted TLC $68.66 so far for 1999 (Please be sure that if you have a National Affinity Card and want to make sure that T.L.C. is benefitting from this make sure on your statement you see RK#159)
Homeless Homer proofs netted $253.97 for our last turn in
Last month's aluminum can collection added up to $217.60!
That is nothing to sneeze at. Please keep up the good work, your little bit has really helped in a big way!

Garage Sale Update
As hot as it was, people still came out to the T.L.C. Animal Shelter's Garage Sale that was held at Sharon Hager's home. We want to thank Sharon for giving up the use of her garage to help raise funds for the animals, and also the time she devoted to the sale. We also wish to thank Donna Holous and Annie Coleman for all the effort they put into it too, not only the sale dates, but all the pre sale work like pricing, storing, unloading etc etc. But all the work panned out well for the shelter with $1050.00 raised!
