Nobody cared until there was you

The world is a very cruel and lonely place, for so many thousands of homeless animals.
For these poor animals there isn't any place to find shelter from the freezing cold.
For these poor animals there isn't any food to be found, to ease the pain of their hunger.
For these poor animals, there isn't any friendly pat on the head to comfort them ..... they remain afraid and alone.
The sad truth is, if these animals do not receive help many of them will die, and those that do survive will continue to live a life of suffering, hunger, and pain. Unfortunately it takes more than wishing and hoping to care for these animals ...... it takes money.
But there is hope for these animals, hope at TLC, where thanks to your help a safe refuge has been provided for them. The animals pictured on this page portray just a small portion of the more than 3,000 animals your benevolence has helped this year. We could not do this though, if it were not for your generous contributions. Every dollar donated is utilized to the utmost to provide these animals with the very best of care.
Your contributions are what make up the backbone of the shelter, your empathy towards the animals is what gives the shelter it's heart.

Don't Tie a Ribbon on Her and Say Surprise!
With the holidays near, some folks think a kitten or puppy would be the perfect gift to surprise someone with. Although their intentions are good, the recipient might not see it that way. Having to clean the kitten's litterbox or cleaning up "accidents" the puppy made, might be more work than they are prepared for. There is also the additional expense of food and medical care that must be taken into consideration. And last but not least animals require our time, time some people just may not have to spare, so who ends up getting the short end of the stick... the poor animal. We have seen too many cases where that adorable puppy or kitten is gotten rid of, or dumped out on some lonely road.
Getting a pet is a very important decision, not to be taken lightly. It is a lifetime commitment that is made from the heart.

Happy Ending
Here is another happy ending story we wanted to share with you.

Hi there! My name used to be Duke, now I am called Dalantor. A year ago I was dropped off at your shelter by my human, because she could not take care of me anymore (I think I got too big.). Anyway, I stayed at TLC a couple of days until a family with a little boy came in and fell in love with me. They took me to their house, and introduced me to their other dog, my sister Ariel. I have lived with them for a year now, and really like my home here.
I love my boy, Harris. He is full of energy like me, and likes to chase me and I like to chase him too. We play in the yard a lot, and my favorite game is fetch (ball, stick, rope, it doesn't matter), although I don't ALWAYS bring it right back - sometimes I just prance around with it because I am so proud of myself. My other favorite game is jump, not on people, just up in the air. My Dad calls me a kangaroo, whatever that is.
I got my people to take a picture of me with my sister Ariel and my boy, Harris. Thank you so much for the second chance at a happy home life - you guys are the best!

Sending Flowers?
Try Floral Alliance and you'll be helping the animals too! Your floral order can generate anywhere from a $5.00 to a $14.00 contribution to TLC. Next time you're sending flowers call Floral Alliance at 1-800-423-5803, and use TLC's code NP-1136 so the shelter receives the donation.

Time is Not on Their Side
You spotted him a few days ago, and he is still wandering the neighborhood, obviously nobody's pet. Do something for that stray cat or dog before it's too late!
As long as I live, I will never forget the blustery winter day, when I had just finished up some holiday shopping. I came out of the store and spied a beautiful black cat curled up on the sidewalk. She appeared to be trying to keep warm in the afternoon sun, as the wind ruffled her fur. When I came up upon her she did not run, but continued laying there peacefully, and with packages tucked under my arm I bent down to stroke her. As my hand slid down her silky fur, a sickening feeling hit me in the pit of my stomach, the cat was as cold as the ground she lay on. She had frozen to death...
Winter is the hardest time of the year for homeless animals, and the fierce winds and cold takes it's toll on a great many of them. Those that do survive often suffer from frostbite, and other ailments brought on by the cold.
For their sake, if you see a stray cat or dog in your area get it in to us or your local shelter immediately, or call your local animal control to pick it up. Remember time is not on their side especially in the dead of winter.

Sorry About Any Confusion
In our last newsletter we made a point of telling you that although we have not moved, we have been incorporated into the village of Homer Glen and the zip code is 60491. Trying to save money, we called the post office to see if it we could use up the supply of return envelopes with the old address on them, and they said it was not a problem as long as it was done within the next 6 months. Sorry for any confusion but all we were trying to do was save money. I think you'll agree, the money we would have spent having new business and return envelopes made, can be better used feeding the animals at the shelter.

TLC Special Seen on COMCAST CABLE
A special on area shelters called Petropolis has featured TLC on 3 of its half hour episodes, that have aired on Comcast Cable channel 3. The director of the program Paul Pajeau with the aid of his assistant Karen Kitlarz in charge of production development filmed the workings of the shelter, and great clips of the animals there, along with interviews with TLC staff members. We hope you have a chance to see it, as Mr. Pajeau and Ms. Kitlarz did a great job. Check your local listing to see when it will be aired in your area.
