Shelter News from Shorty the Cat's Point of View (the cat about town)

Merry Christmas!

Hi!
"Is something wrong with Shorty he has barely had a bite to eat all day. He didn't even try to snatch one of the donuts that Dan brought in today, like he usually does, nor did he make any attempt to grab one of Denny's cookies, that were sitting on the desk."
Shorty has been like this the last couple of days, Mary Ann noticed it too.
"You're right Sam, that certainly doesn't sound like Shorty. When it comes to food, Shorty is right there. Maybe we should take him in to see Doc. Shorty are you feeling okay?"
Yes, I'm okay, why did you ask?
"Then what has happened to your appetite, and why are you in such a glum mood? You should be happy, the Shelter looks great, you guys out did yourselves with the Christmas decorations, and I saw how carefully you climbed to the top of the Christmas tree to put the star on. You've gotten very good at that, no toppled tree this year. While I'm thinking about it maybe you better get your Santa suit out so we can see how it fits."
Do I have to?
"Yes, Shorty I think it would be a very good idea. Besides it's not good for you to be moping around."
I only have to try on the hat, beard and boots right?
"No Shorty, what I really need you to do is try on the Santa suit to make sure it fits."
Ugh, I'm not sure where I put it.
"Shorty, I'm sure it's right where it always is. Shorty what gives?"
It seems the seams.
"It seems the seams? What kind of answer is that? What in the world are you talking about? It seems to me you're trying to avoid the issue. Shorty, is there something that you are trying to tell me?"
I did tell you in a round about way.
"I don't remember you telling me anything about your Santa suit."
When I told you, it seems the seams. I thought that I made it pretty clear what the problem is.
"Shorty I still don't get it, there's something you are not telling me so can you enlighten me."
The problem is, I already tried my Santa suit on, and it seems the seams were ready to split when I put it on. I blame it entirely on my job at the Shelter's craft show and bake sale.
"What does the craft show and Bake Sale have to do with this?"
Plenty! I took it upon myself, making the personal sacrifice to sample as many of the baked goods that I could, making sure everything tasted good, and nothing was stale. I sampled so many goodies I thought I was going to burst, now that's what I call sacrifice!
"Sacrifice? Shorty what am I going to do with you? No wonder your Santa suit doesn't fit."
That is what has me down in the dumps, I have to play Santa for the puppies and kittens, especially all these little transports who have had such a rough time already in their short little lives. And nobody plays Santa as well as I do, now what am I going to do? I have been trying to dddddiet......just saying that word makes me start stammering.
"I agree Shorty you are the absolute best at playing Santa, and the puppies and kittens just love it. If there was any way I could help you out I would."
Boy Shorty, you are in a tough spot, what are you going to do?
"Don't panic guys, I have an idea, I'll call in the rescue team to help us out of this predicament. Thank goodness Annie, Sandi, and Michele are good seamstresses, because between the three of them, I am positive they will come up with a solution to this dilemma. But just remember Shorty, you have to go easy on the Christmas cookies."
I promise, I'll take it easy, me overindulge? Never!
Right Shorty, and reindeer really know how to fly!
"Shhhhh! Be careful what you say guys I think we have little ears listening in right now."
Ahem, as I was saying, why of course reindeer fly, but not just any reindeer, just Santa's reindeer they have that magical power just one night of the year so they can help Santa deliver treats and toys to all good little puppies, kittens, and girls and boys.
Shorty since you seem to have an in with Santa will you put in a good word for me too?
Sure Sam no problem.
Shorty you're the best! Slurrrpp!
Ugh dog lips!
"Just wait until I hang up the mistletoe Shorty."
Mistletoe! Oh No! Gotta run!

Love,

Shorty

PS
Before I run I want to tell all my friends Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Punky AKA Punky Bear's Happy ending

All Punky wanted was a home and someone to love. Punky came from the Fulton County Humane Society, and although they tried to place they were unable to find him a home. Punky's time was up there, especially since he tested positive for heartworm. The volunteers at Fulton asked if we might help Punky since he was in dire need. We said we could and had him transported to TLC. We had his heartworm treated immediately, and Punky was ready for his forever home. Punky waited and waited and waited. Potential adopters would walk him, spend time with him, and they said what a nice dog he was, but they always adopted a different dog. Month after month passed as Punky watched everyone else get a home. You would think that would have brought his spirits down, but Punky always remained good natured with a ready "smile". Although it took quite a bit of time, Punky's life took a turn when a very nice family came in a little while ago looking for a pet, spotted Punky and fell in love. Now here is Punky's happy ending:

Hello to all my Friends at TLC,

Thank you so much for taking care of me until my family arrived to adopt me. I am settling into my new home and I think that I am really going to like living here. I have a new bed to sleep in, a basket with lots of toys to keep me busy, a big back yard to play fetch in, but best of all I have someone home with me most of the time. Everyone says that I have a sweet disposition, good manners and that I am very smart. I go on a walk everyday so I am getting to know all the neighbors. I really like seeing all the kids, but I am working on not jumping up on them when I get too excited. Sometime I forget how big I am!! I have also been to meet my new doctor and I received my shots and grooming. He thought I was a good dog too. Last but not least, the Southtown newspaper came to my house to take my picture as they are going to write a story about adopting animals from shelters. My family didn't realize I was a celebrity! I will send you a copy of the articles for your "Happy Endings" Stories.

So thanks again for all you did for me. My first week home has been a happy one. I have relatives in Lockport, so maybe I will stop in for a visit sometime.

Best wishes,

Punky Bear

A Happy Ending and a Pat on the Back for TLC

We had been looking for a short haired cat for a few months and we finally found our special pet at your center. We live in Joliet and we visited many shelters and found yours to be the best we have ever seen. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I felt bad because we went there so many times but each visit was as fresh as the first.

Our kitten that we adopted there is very special to both of us and she wilI be cared for whatever her every needs are. I really believe she thinks she is a dog. I snap my fingers and she wilI run to me, my dog won't even do that. We also have a miniature schnauzer and they are perfect together, they wilI chase each other through our home.

The pets you have are very lucky to have the care you give them. I wish there were more shelters that could be like yours. Congratulations on your professional and caring shelter. And yes you can put this in print.

Sincerely,

Jerome Winger
