SHORTY'S MEW-SINGS

Hi!
Boy you guys are really busy getting ready for the Holiday Open House! If you need more help Sam and I could pitch in and I am sure Stinky and Sully would too.
"That would be great Shorty, we've got a lot to do and can use all the help we can get. What did you have in mind?"
I thought decorating the Christmas tree would get everyone in the holiday mood, and I could get the puppies and kittens to help too. Remember the job we did last year?
"How could I forget? I remember that the tree never looked prettier as you were hanging the last ornament on the tree."
Ah yes it was pretty...sigh
"That is until one of the kittens tried to place the star at the top, then what a fiasco!"
Ugh I guess I tried to put that part out of my mind. I made the mistake of asking if any of the kittens wanted to place the star on the top of the tree, but I didn't realize that they all wanted to do it! Before I could say another word one of the kittens hollared out, 'First one to the top gets to hang the star!' I tried to stop the inevitable, but it was too late. I watched as the kittens made a mad dash and scrambled up the tree, and then the tree began to rock one way, and then the other, before it came crashing down. The puppies thought that looked like fun and joined in by chasing the plastic ornaments that rolled across the floor.
"Uhhhhh, Shorty on second thought, I'll decorate the tree, while you do something else to help."
Come to think of it, you might have a good point. One thing I can help with is the music for the open house. I wrote a song especially for the event.
"You did Shorty?"
Yes I did and I am very proud of it. It is a catchy little ditty that not only entertains but will help raise money for the Bertha Fund. It goes to the melody from the "Twelve Days of Christmas." I'm not quite done with it but I will sing for you what I have already.
"Shorty, I'm all ears."
Okay Sam you can be my back up singer.
MI Mi Mi MI Mi! Aroooo! Aroooo!
"Sam! Shorty! What are you guys doing, my poor ears!"
HUMPH! You know singers have to warm up their vocal chords. Now remember Sam the melody is from the Twelve Days of Christmas.
Gotcha Shorty.
Here goes!

One day at the shelter someone brought to TLC,
-1 cat with pink eye
----2 kittens with ring worm
------3 pups with KC
---------4 dogs with heartworm
----------and 5 cats with fleeeeeeaaassss!

"Shorty!"
I know it's great isn't it and I bet you can hardly wait to hear the rest, but that is going to be a surprise.
"I'm surprised alright! Shorty, singing about heartworm, kennel cough and ringworm isn't exactly the type of song I had in mind for the Holiday Open House."
Are you saying that you didn't like it?
"Well Shorty, I didn't exactly say that, I know how hard you tried."
I was just trying to raise money for the Bertha Fund.
"I understand that Shorty, but.."
Wait if you don't think that song works, I have another I just started working on and should be purrrfect for the Open House.
"Okay Shorty lets hear what else you've come up with."
This one goes to the tune of "Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly". Are you ready Sam let's hit it!

Bring food and treats for the pups and kittens Fa la la la Ia, la la la!
Beggin Strips and Whisker Lickens Fa la la la la....

"SHORTY stop! I've heard enough."
What's wrong? You just stopped us in the middle of a fa la la. It seems like you don't want our help with anything.
"I'm sorry Shorty, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Of course we need your help. Shorty you have the most important job of all."
Which is?
"Did you forget? You always play Santa for the puppies and kittens and Sam, Sully and Princess Stinky play the reindeer and elves."
I thought you might have wanted someone else to play Santa for the kittens and puppies this year, because you never asked me to try on my Santa suit this year.
"Oh Shorty, you should know nobody else can play Santa as well as you. As for why I didn't ask you to try on your Santa suit this year, it looked like you lost a little bit of weight so I wasn't worried about it fitting you."
Oh my I hope I didn't lose too much weight, you know Santa is supposed to have a round tummy. I better fix that situation now!
"Shorty where are you going?"
Come on guys it's off to the kitchen!
"Shorty what am I going to do with you?"
Feed me!
Love,

Shorty

PS.We wish each of you all the happiness you have brought to the animals at TLC for the holiday season and throughout the New Year! And eat plenty of Christmas cookies, since Christmas only comes once a year!

A Christmas Prayer for All Animals

Sandi O'Brien wanted to share this poignant poem with all of you. The author of this poem seems to sum up how all of us feel, and what we wish for every animal, the care they deserve and a loving family.

On Christmas morning...
I wish,

For every dog searching trash cans for breakfast,
A filled bowl with his name printed in bright letters.

For every dog who slept fitfully last night, chained in a frozen yard,
A soft warm bed with a person snoring gently nearby.

For every shelter dog, spending Christmas morning in a run,
A forever home, filled with sounds and smells of family.

For every "Christmas" puppy or kitten given today,
A tolerant caring owner who won't abandon you as you grow into a real dog or cat.

For every ailing pet,
Enough money for your owner to pay the bills to make you well.

For every lost dog,
A clear safe road and well marked path, to lead you home.

For every old and tired friend,
A warm fire and a soft bed, to ease your aches and pains.

For every Heart Dog at the Bridge,
A moment when you know that you are remembered today, missed again and loved forever.
